Taste opens goes sweet then your hit with the hops. Mine was not flat it has fizz that actual tingles your tongue. Nice Chimay Blue like overtones. Unibroue emulates Belgian beers quite wel.. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 20, 2005 Bottle. Is this Quelque Chose? If not, it must’ve come from the uncleaned brew tanks of that beer. Pours a jet black with an aroma of spicy cranberry. Flavor is cranberry and a faint touch of strawberry. Palate coats. Great beer, but I think I’ve had this before. snoot (277), Anaheim, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 18, 2005 Initially pours lovely, but the head quickly disappears to mere wisps of lacing. Red wine and dark plums in the aroma. Big alcohol bite, mouthfeel was pretty flat. I thought that it was missing the usual Unibroue yeast character. Frank (1066), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Oct 11, 2005 Updated: Oct 13, 2005Can’t say this is Unibroue’s best, not by a stretch. It pours dark and lovely w/ only a small gray head that rapidly fizzles to nothing. It has your usual Belgian suspects--cloves and spice, banana--but the body is just sort of sweet and flat. The carbonation was just off on this one and it came across rather lackluster and syrupy.
It’s possible that I got a badly corked bottle and would be willing to rate again. However, there was no sign of any sort of infection nor was it completely flat as you would expect if someting was awry w/ the cork. jaymobrown (1354), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 10, 2005 Umm, this was interesting. Sort of average I’d say for this brewery. There were definite flavors going on, but it seemed just rather typical. Had a funky vinous taste going on. Poured a very dark brown, thick, bread like. Malt characteristics dominate throughout. Some hoppy, bitter at the end. Fruit, banana, flavors. Really sweet throughout. Kind of dominates, but a sugar, syrup sweet that bothers a little. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 4, 2005 Mmmm, what a beer! Poured a dark, hazy brown with a matching 1/3" or so head. Nose is fruity - black cherries, figs, maybe dates. Flavor follows suit, with the cherries leading the way. A somewhat sharp alcohol taste fades after the 3rd sip or so. Becomes more complex as it warms, revealing a prune undertone spiked with clove. A very clean finish for a beer of this ilk, overall a real pleasure! If you like Chimay Grand Reserve, give this a whirl! mj23 (63), south holland, Illinois, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 2, 2005 A celebratory beer for our White Sox great aroma of licorice, clove and autumn spices. Alcohol after taste ,yes, but welcomed. A exceptional seasonal beer that we wish we could get easier. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 1, 2005 i was a bit surprised to see this one on the shelf at total wine of all places. pours dark colored brown with a fat head but it goes away the more times you refill the glass. taste is oaky, yeasty, rich and refreshing. kind of hard to get down at first but after a glass of this the remaining 500ml is very easy to consume. alcohol presence is pretty sharp at first, but it goes away quickly. not bad, had better but this one does the trick.
