Great toasty/malty aroma paired with port-like scents and molasses. Dark brown, murky body. Slightly sweet initial flavor, but a bit of a sour/bitter finish. Very complex, although I did not think that the strong alcohol presence was well balanced in this ale. Overall, very good.

Pours out dark, opaque brown. Solid creamy off-white head, lasts well, leaves pasty coating of lace. Aromas of raisin and currant, apple, banana, straw, earth, molasses, chocolate and yeast. Flavor was sweet toasty malt, banana, apple cider, alcohol, dark fruit, brown sugar, cloves, ginger, maple syrup, chocolate, vanilla, and, of course, hops. This was a chewy brew, stuck to the mouth well and left with a candy sugar sweetness and a solid hoppy bitter finish. CONCLUSION: Complex aromas and flavors, nice appearance, sweet and malty with a strong hop presence.

Bottled. Muddy, dark brown with a hint of red in the body. Medium tan head that is fully lasting, but doesn’t lace...hm... Aroma is yeasts (dark bread, bananas foster...ie. cooked bananas, crystalized brown sugar and rum), clove, dark fruits--very fruity--malts, toffee, caramel, chocolatey tones. Body is medium with tons of coarse mouth-filling carbonation that is quite dry. A touch of watery character in the finish. Flavor is dominated by fruits. Cherries and prunes are the winners with lemon, clove and a hint of orange, wood, berries, plumb, licorice on the finish. Very malty, dry, lightly sour and lightly bitter finish. Warming. Alcohol is incredibly well hidden. You don’t taste it, but you do feel it. I expected to have to age this beer, but it’s young and vibrant and ready to go off the shelf. Favorite Unibroue so far.

Aroma of spicy Belgian yeast, chocolate, apricots. Pours a opaque brown, tan head. Cloudy. Kind of flat in the middle. Chocolately flavours. Sweetness in the finish. Mid range alcohol aftertaste. Like most of their beers, it packs quite a wallop. A definite improvement over the 2004 edition. Yesterday I had the Frigante though - this would be Frigante’s trailer trash cousin.

Not bad. Bottled in 11 2004. Poured as dark as most stouts with minimal 1 finger head, Initial smell of yeast, mild malt sweetness and weird spoiled dark fruit. Taste was no blow out. Did not come close to Trois Pistoles. Was not complex. Yeasty, fuller bodied Belgian brown is all I got. For the most part their "special" beers are not impressing me.

Pours like Terrible. Chocolate puddinghead. Dark brown. Yeast and prune aroma. Not sure Sleeman put a lot of though into this anniversary. Very similar to Terrible. Flavour is like a chocolate plum with some banana.

Dark mahogany, beige head, lots of fizzy carbonation and lacing. The nose is rich in plums and house uni character, some toasty caral malts, candi sugar and nice light alcohol. It burns in the flavor though. Nice balanced tart/sweet, rich fig, tasty. Finishes creamy, balanced, nice frutiness.
