3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 drfabulous (2949) - Lexington, Kentucky, USA - NOV 24, 2007Not exactly what I expect from a strong ale. Very strong cola taste, rather than the heavy malt I want. A good beer, but a bit of a weird surprise.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 superspak (1478) - Michigan, USA - FEB 26, 2013
750 ml bottle into signature tulip glass, bottled on 12/12/2011. Pours very hazy dark reddish brown color with a nice 2 finger dense and fluffy light khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice thick soapy lacing clings on the glass, with plenty of carbonation streaming up retaining the head. Aromas of big raisin, prune, fig, apple, pear, molasses, brown sugar, toast, toffee, caramel, herbal, banana, pepper, clove, cinnamon, and yeast earthiness. Fantastic aromas with big complexity and great balance of malt and fruity esters. Taste of big raisin, prune, fig, molasses, brown sugar, toffee, toast, herbal, banana, pepper, clove, cinnamon, light oak, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of dark fruits, molasses, brown sugar, caramel, toast, toffee, herbal, banana, pepper, clove, cinnamon, oak, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic balance and complexity of dark malt, spice, and fruity esters; with zero cloying sweetness present after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy, slick, earthy, and lightly prickly mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with only a slight warming noticed well after the finish. Overall this is an incredible Belgian strong dark ale! Big complexity and balance of malt and fruity esters; and dangerously smooth to sip on. An absolutely top notch offering all around.

Bottle. Got this one after it had been cellared ...by that i mean left n the shelf...a few years at a beer shop in Orno, ME. Pretty standard flavor palette for Unibroque. Little more alcohol warmth than expected.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 SpringsLicker (2822) - Tennessee, USA - SEP 5, 2012
Cellared until 9/2012
Clear dark brown with a minimal white head.
The aroma is sweet caramel and toast.
The flavor follows the aroma and adds a fruity spicy touch.
Smooth and very easy drinking. Hides it’s alcohol well.

Bottle shared with friends. Nose is big spicy yeast and toffee/caramel with some bready notes. Flavors match. No signs of alcohol. Not much else to say here except it’s an exceptional brew. I’ve come to expect nothing less from these folks at Unibroue.

This brew must have been properly stored, as it showed no signs of age. The nose was herbal and mellow with notes of toffee and light alcohol. Vanilla and caramel cover the mouth, and afterwards leaves and almost candied grapefruit aftertaste. Seriously good stuff here - thanks Jordan.

Another old favourite opened at a Bartowel tasting that is showing signs of age. Clear mahogany with no head to speak off, bit of a white film. Madira, oak, figs, toffee, yeast and some oxidization. Very low carbonation, medium bodied, slightly sweet but with a mild bitterness on the finish along with more fruit. Past its prime but still interesting to try again after all these years.

Thanks to pushkinwow for popping this at the Ottawa tasting. Pours dark brown with an off white top. Aroma is specialty malts, figs and candy sugar. Taste is fizzy, figs, raisins, special malts and yeast. Sublimely complex, perhaps a bit past but still very awesome.

One of my all time favorites. Thick head on top of a brown\black liquid front the heavens. Strong malty yeasty nose that Unibroue is known for. Chocolate and coffee warms as it goes down.

Aroma of berries, toffee and oxidation notes. The taste is toffee, berries, citrus, bready notes. Medium-full bodied. Decent. Tasty.
