I tried their Ephemere Apple, a rare venture for Rings into the world of fruit beers. Though my German brewing roots typically prohibit much palate for spiced or fruit beers, I do keep trying ’em, just in case something gives. Ephemere pours blonde, as its base is a simple Belgian wit. There’s a huge Granny Smith nose, however, which leaves no doubt as to the direction this one will go. It has a slightly sour bite, off-balanced with a nice fruitiness that is (thankfully) a mere fraction of the bouquet. The body is thin and it’s highly carbonated, perhaps due to age, as the bottle conditioning may be a little “overly-done,” to quote Mel Blanc. It finishes tart, with lingering sour notes. While this wasn’t horrible—as I feared—it still wasn’t good. Despite my reluctance, I have had a few decent, and even “good” fruit beers. Unfortunately, this wasn’t one of them, although I suspect age may have been the greatest factor in its lack of balance.

Pleasant apple aroma. The body is a hazy yellow amber with soda bubbly head that thins quickly. Has sweet tart apple taste with a hint of maltiness. Has a apple cider like dry finish. As close to an apple beer without being a cider as I’ve tasted.

Pours a burnt orange color with lots of sediment and a white head. Coriander, wheat and apple aroma. Coriander, apple juice, wheat, and light spice flavors. Light body and lively carbonation. Coriander and apple finish. Tons or coriander and the apple taste a bit artificial. Bottle from at least a year ago.

Part of the Unibroue Semoliers Pack Smells very potently of apples over a Belgian Dubble. Pours a light gold colour. Head disappears quickly. Taste is that of a Belgian Dubble, with a hint of apple, Not overpowering. Good amount of carbonation. No aftertaste. I had left this beer for last as I wasn’t too sure on an apple beer. But I was pleasantly surprised. I wouldn’t buy a 6 pack, but if it was park of the Mixer pack again, I wouldn’t turn it down.

Fuck no. This is dreadful. Pours a hazy dark gold with small white head. Aroma is of straw, wine, and big dank. Tastes of fake green apple, wheat, and bubblegum. Has a dry finish and medium body. Very Jolly Rancher like in a bad way.

UPDATED: APR 25, 2016 I poured it from the bottle into a glass. It pours a cloudy orange color with a big white head and lacing. The aroma is apples, banana, and yeast. The taste is green apples, Belgian yeast, and lemon. There?s a nice balance of sweet and sour. This is a pretty good summer beer.

Bottle. Pours a hazy golden orange color with white head. Yeasty, green apple, slight straw aromas. Apple, fruity, yeasty flavors. Good mixture of belgian beer and fruit beer. Tasty.

Hazy golden color with powerful activity. Thick extra foamy white sparkly 3 finger head, lasting around 15 minutes, with good legs. Aromas and flavors of fruits and citrus, slightly grainy. Strong sugary taste of apple, melon, and lime with floral spices. Like a dessert witbier. Slick medium body with prickly carbonation. Soft and crisp finish ending with a sweet fresh fruity mouth feel. Overall an excellent fruit beer with great flavors and very refreshing. Very sweet but not excessively.

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2016 Unibrow. Got this off a list of 100 beers to have before you die, and at age 71, I’m in more of a rush than most of you... Smells a lot like apples and yeast. Thin body, pretty dry, not unpleasant. Bottle poured into a Chimay chalice giving a good head that didn’t last and a cloudy hay colour. A bit of bubblegum and white bread, and naturally, the apples and yeast. Frankly, this is a real letdown after the build-up. I don’t like to be overwhelmed by my brews, but here’s the opposite, a yeasty, fruity nonentity with little to say for itself. Ephemeral indeed. Still, for what it is, it goes down easy. Glad I got only one (and done) bottle. I feel like adding something to perk this up! A votre santé.
