Tubbfan (144), Joliet, Illinois, USA Aug 8, 2005 Poured from a 750ml corked bottle. Appearance is very murky, cloudy, brownish orange. Lots of yeast adding to the cloudiness. Nice white, inch-high head consisting of multi-sized bubbles. Good lacing throughout. Black currants dominate the smell, accompanied by aromatic hops. Lots of odor to this one! As far as taste goes. . . well its complex. Initially, I taste the currants (very sweet on the tip of my tongue), then there is a sour flavor of the yeast that evolves into a bitter rust flavor on the back of my tongue - could be caused by some of the hops. Champagne-like carbonation is not unpleasant. Liquid has little body to it and the aftertaste is dry. Overall, I don’t care for it.
JMerritt (1313), Macomb, Illinois, USA Aug 5, 2005 Apricot-colored with pinkish hues, slightly hazy. Head is large and bright white. Black currant aroma is very prevalent, with red raspberries and a slightly sour cheesiness. Wheaty flavor with berry tartness, moderately sweet and moderately sour with a raspberry seed/tannin finish. Moderate-to-high carbonation. I really enjoyed this. bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Aug 2, 2005 (750ml bottle) Pours a lightly cloudy pinkish ruby body with a moderate white head. Strong, vibrant black currant aroma. Carbonated, black currant flavor with some wheat. Palate reminded me of a wine cooler. Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 25, 2005 From bottle at State College 8th Annual Festival. Has a nice black currant fruity bouquet with just a bit of wheat underneath. Hazy golden amber in color with thin off-white head. Medium to light in body with medium carbonation. Predominantly, there is a nice fruity black currant taste to this beer, with mild tartness and juicy fruity flavor. But, just like the apple, it tends to be a bit watery in substance at the finish. After is mild fruity chalky taste. Darkover (1308), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jul 22, 2005 Opaque orange color with a big foamy white head. Aroma of black currants and grapefruit. Flavor of grapes, wheat, yeast and some sourness. jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Jul 18, 2005 750ml. bottle. Clear orange color with a large white head. Somewhat medicinal aroma of berries. Flavor reminded me of cherry cough syrup I used to take as a kid. I liked the apple Ephemere, but there was just something about this one I didn’t like at all. Odeed (1666), Bakersfield, California, USA Jul 13, 2005 after fighting with the cork for 5 minutes i finally busted out the old cork screw and got it out with a loud POP!this fruit beer poured a murky orange with a nice white head.aromas of wheat, apple, grape, and belgian yeast fill my nose.lots of wheat in the flavor.along with some hops, grapes, and yeast.not bad at all. Dough77 (771), Aurora, Illinois, USA Jul 13, 2005 Not quite what I was expecting from beginning to end. Pour was a dark red- pinkish, wine looking pour. Nose is big with blackberries and fruit, but the taste was lackluster across the board. Dull, some berry but not quite what you’d expect from the nose. Yeasty and sweet and sometimes sour, but never really great.
