Very classic Belgian ale. Light hazy lemon color, much like lemonade. Oranges and light fruit, spice, and alcohol. Dry finish. The alcohol is really strong throughout, which some may not enjoy as it sits on the palate. For those that like stron ales this is worth checking out.

Pours a cloudy golden yellow with a big white head. Very smooth flavor with a nice balance of hops and malts. Has a dry and somewhat spicy finish that is very nice. Unibroue brews may be the best things to have come out of Canada.

Giant white head, tons of carbonation. Hazy pale golden hue. Bell pepper aroma as indicated by the mighty Oakes, as well as light spice, light fruit, orange. Alcohol is evident, malts are nice, light to medium bodied, big fruity body, and pepper and dry in the finish. These guys are excellent, im always impressed. The larger cork finished bottles are always better, they mellow and meld flavors nicely with age. WOOOHOO!

Misty golden color with a gurgling, frothy head leaves a sparkling mesh of lace sliding down the glass. Yeasty citrus aroma with clues of spices. Floral(roses?). Sweet malty flavor with a touch of tropical fruit and cloves. Mild hops and talcy faintly dry finish.

UPDATED: MAY 15, 2004 Rerate Bubblegum sweetness is the most prominent flavor coming through this time around. Still damn good, tastes have just refined a bit in the last two years. Original 4.0 Second of the Unibroue's that I have tried - even though it has 9% ABV - it hides it well. Clean, fresh, fruity aroma, bubbly, champagne-like appearance. Good mouthfeel - wakes your tastebuds up with its crispness and spiciness.

Amber, hazy, colour. head doesn’t last long. Yeasty, slightly acidic, with a touch of toffee, aroma. The flavour reminds me of a way too strong Witbier. It gave me a heartburn!

This time I left the sediment behind in the bottle so it poured an very faintly hazy medium gold. Head is still small. Aroma was similar to the first rating but included a stronger vinous aroma. Palate was a bit smoother. Less spicey/yeasty and more sweet fruity is consistent with leaving the yeast in the bottle.
First rated 9/20/2002 3.5 Faint hazy yellow brown under a shortish lasting off-white crusty bubbled head. Fine specks of beige sediment. Faint soapy sappy hops aroma warming to a medium strong cirtus honey and caramel malty, spicey golden syrup, especially when glass is swirled. Medium body with medium strong wheat, lemon and honey flavours do a fair job of masking the high ABV. Spices (coriander and nutmeg?) linger in finish and aftertaste. An interesting and different brew but not smooth or well blended enough to challenge Terrible or even La Maudite.

Pours cloudy with foamy head that dissipates quickly. Very spicy with hints of citrus and banana then fades into a blend of malt and yeast.

Nice crystal clear light blonde. Slightly sweet, with a hint of attitude at the end to make you come back for more. Man I love this brewery!

Not as good as I remembered it this is still a fine drink and a blessing to New World fans of Belgian style brewing, as is Unibroue in general. The beer pours with an active but short-lived head, though retaining enough to enhance the mouthfeel. Aromas of citrus and spice, dominate along with a hearty maltiness, grassy herbal notes and earthy yeast. The beer remains a milky sedimented yellow/amber - at least it does if you pour the yeast, as I did. There is a definite lemony quality to the beer, herbal? - lemon verbena , lemon grass, etc. Bready banana and honey flavors, plenty of malt, enough tartness for contrast and complexity and a fairly clean finish. Nonetheless, I don’t think its Unibroue’s best.
