3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tasty stuff, but does not call forth apocalyptic visions, at least in this guy. Indeed yellow: lemon yellow, but fairly clear, which prevents it from coming off like a wheat beer. Lotsa head, from start to finish, as is common with Unibroue beers. Interesting aroma on this one: lemon, banana, bready/yeasty flavors, grain dust, and pineapple. Flavor is less multifarious, but still pretty interesting. Not as sweet as I would have thought, a good amount of warming alcohol, noble hoppiness. A faint nuttiness is all I got from the malts; this is mostly about the yeast and various citrusy/mildy sour flavors produced thereby.

La fin du monde...oui, parce que c'est wicked terrible. Maybe i just don't like this style of beer, but i did not like this one (neither did the two other Ratebeerians who split this with me). wicked yello (it's so ungodly yellow that i have intentionally left off the 'w' to illustrate the pure toxic yellowness of it) with an odd, unpleasant fruity taste. i had a near impossible time trying to distinguish what this tasted like because my face contorted in an awful way by the overwhelming awfulness of it.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: APR 10, 2005 Another excellent Unibroue offering. Pours a deep cloudy gold with a creamy white head. Aroma of spice and malt. Very smooth and slightly fruity flavor ... sweet and silky on the palate. Great beer.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
750 ml corked & caged brown bottle. Poured out a very pale straw yellow color. Had an enormous, but short lived, creamy white head on it. The head faded to a creamy white lacing on top of the beer itself. Aromas of lemon, lactic wheat, and belgian yeast. That sweet, funky yeast. No discernable hop aroma whatsoever. Tasted fresh, crisp and subdued. No alcohol taste at all here, despite it's rather high ABV rating. Lemon notes in the beginning, with a sweet maltiness in the middle. It has a crisp finish to it also. Not cloying at all. A very drinkable beer from Unibroue. It makes a great lawnmower beer, although rather high in alcohol.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
75 cL bottle, wine glass, 48 degrees. Short lived, fizzy, white head sits atop a hazy, medium-yellow body, which shows lively carbonation. Heavy dough and cobweb yeast; citric and flower hops; grain and light bread malt; hints of banana and apple; no indication of alcohol in the aroma. Moderately sweet throughout with a light bitterness to the finish. Pleasantly acidic throughout with only a tinge of alcohol at the end. Aroma is translated quite well to the flavor. Medium-light body has fizzy carbonation and is somewhat drying, but watery otherwise. The bottom line is: tasty, refreshing, well hidden alcohol...I dig it!

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
This beer is very good, however, I don't think it lives up to its ratings. Perhaps it was my bottle, or perhaps it was just me, but I just felt like it left a little lacking - nothing made it stand out very much. Fairly strong bite, complex hoppy notes to the flavour, it is definitely more potent than the Hoegaarden I tried next. Medium bitterness, lightly sweet, it is pleasing to the senses, but not overwhelming.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This didn't drink to 9%. Big white head on a clear, slightly off-amber body. There is something grape underneath this, and the perfuming aroma develops as it warms. Very good palate, frothing and drinkable, and a nice yeasty, unalcoholic, fruity, spicy, sweet, complex set of flavors. A nice, classic Unibroue interpretation.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very nice! Sweet yeasty aroma. Dark golden opaque colour. Very yeasty flavour, some malt. But I have to tell you, I couldn't really notice the 9% alcoholic content.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a hazy golden orange, lively carbonation that settles quickly and hangs around for the whole glass. Aroma has yeast, pear, citrus, celery. The first sip hits hard. There's some yeast flavor, a bit of malt, soft and sugary sweet, alcohol in the finish. You can feel this beer warming you up- not a great choice for a warm summer night. But on the other hand I love tripels, so maybe the rating is a little biased. I'm impressed, especially considering that the first time I had this over a year ago (before I starting drinking real beers) I thought this beer more closely resembled smoked ham than anything else. My tastes have changed I guess.
