Notes of oranges, lemon, apples, and spices. Mouthfeel is very crisp, almost soda-like. Thin, but refreshing. A bit of an alcohol burn. Definitely a warm weather beer. I took off a few overall points because I was a bit misled by the style, and it is expensive in my state. But it is an excellent example of a crisp, bready, citrus beer. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | May 7, 2008 Finally sampled this at the Unibroue beer tasting Fairfield, OH. This is one of those beers that you’ve always wanted to drink but never got around to buying it. So this just kind of fell in my lap. I was reasonably impressed by the bright gold body, large marshmallowy head, and decoration of Belgian lace on the glass. I think of this color as "king’s gold"... and a Duvel instantly comes to mind. There is an immediate scent of Belgian candi sugar, dessert apples in cinammon; very sweet, swimming with caramel. The taste, as expected, was strong, sweet, and only slightly bitter with fresh, bright, citrus notes, lingering candy, and tropical fruits ( a hint of mango perhaps.) Overall a lusciously soft palate and medium/ long finish. I can’t say this exceeded my expectations, but that’s only because I already had set them so high. The same goes for all of Unibroue’s beer. I expect nothing but the best from them, and I’ve never recieved anything less than that. yespr (12105), Copenhagen O, Denmark

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 1, 2008 Cloudy, very pale tan color with a foamy white head. Aroma of yeast, spiced citrus and dough. Flavor is malt and citrus with a complex blend of allspice, cloves and nutmeg coming in, finished off with a hit of cinnamon. Sparkling carbonation but still very smooth with a nice medium body. A big bottle at 9% ABV so you’d better have some rats to share it with (or people, if you’re into that). nitroz680 (31), Ohio, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 30, 2008 Poured a hazy apricot color with a firm two fingers of head that falls slowly leaving scattered lace. The nose was variations of citrus. Grapefruit, orange and lemon with bready malt and spice beneth. The taste started malty, almost doughy then came subtle citrusy hops of gapefruit and orange. A spiciness rounded off the finish with hints of nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice and a smidge of pepper. Nicely complex. This was a very smooth, warming ale, full of body. Its very drinkable, however it’s 9% ABV. will put you on your ass fast.
