Brigadier (900), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA Mar 14, 2006 12 oz bottle (best before October 4, 2008)
When I first opened it, I thought the bottle had been cellared in a centrifuge. It fizzed for at least five minutes before finally settling down enough for me to be able to pour into my snifter. It looks like a heavy carbonated apple juice, although the smell was much different. I picked up hints of citrus, grapefruit, pineapple and some earthiness. After letting it settle down, the first sip gave a nice impression of apples, pears, hay and other barnyard flavors. It may have been a little sweet at first but soon mellowed out with a nice full presence in the mouth. The aftertaste yielded the more spicy aspects of this - there was coriandar and pepper mixed in a honeysuckle-like finish. Overall, it was a great drink although I think I would have to be in the right mood to drink it again if only because of the gushing foamy head.
AllAboutStout (522), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Oct 5, 2008 Another solid offering from Unibroue.
Pours a murky, cloudy light gold in color. Two fingers of head forms on the pour. Smell is highly yeasty, with some spice and a decent amount of lemon. Taste has actually quite a bit of yeast to it. There is more of the fruity overtones, with more than just the lemon flavor showing up. Decent mouthfeel and highly carbonated. Decent, but it’s not "The Don". borgination (78), Lee, Massachusetts, USA Oct 5, 2008 Very fruity and sweet, nice yellow color. This is one sweet and fruity beer, its good, but not that good. To me it takes like champagne. patricks110 (170), Alberta, Canada Oct 5, 2008 Another wonderous beer from Unibroue. This breweryt can’t seem to make a bad beer. Had in bottle. At 9 % this is a bit steep. Can smell the alcohol, and the taste is strong and harsh. Aroma of fermenting fruit and alcohol. Yeasty and maltyt flavour is mixed among the stong 9 % abv flavour. Mouthfeel is unusual and completely standard for a unibroue beer. Wonderful beer overall. jkaiser (101), USA Oct 2, 2008 Just like Duvel. The 10th beer I tried at beerfest. Wonderous flavor of yeast. Lite in power but packs a punch. Pretty Damn Good. smjohnst (160), , Pennsylvania, USA Sep 30, 2008 Had a very nice pour and aroma to it. The flavor was that of a fransizkaner just a little bit more intensity but still easily drinkable.
