Very excellent flavor of spicy alcoholic brown sugar, plums, raisins with pepper and sage and cloves. Very yeasty ale, but the sour burning of the alcohol content makes the yeastyness aggressive, complex like yeasty licorice more so than hefeweizen breadiness. Overall I was thoroughly impressed by this brew, unibroue didn’t live up to my expectations several times before, but this one blew me away.

Apr 17, 2008 The cork popped with the release of a tremendous aroma -- fruity, spicy and yeasty, almost breadlike. Flavor is the typical Unibroue profile with lots of spicy phenolics, some stone fruits and rum raisin. Finishes appropriately dry. Similar to their other strong darks, just more intense. At 10.5% abv, it’s probably best to share the bottle with someone else.

Apr 16, 2008 Dark fruit and yeast aroma. Dark and cloudy with a medium white head. Moderate malt taste in the beginning with a fruity finish. Alcohol is well hidden. Not an overly thick palate.

Apr 13, 2008 Ale on Lees from a bottle purchased at Kenwood in Chicago Southside.A very dark ale - not black with a tan head that fades quickly. Aroma a sharp loam with licorice and scents of pollen, cherry and a hint of Pez. The first sip is sour with a bright spicyness and a shock of citric tartness - and again a little bit of Pez - held together with a deep malt center and a true hop-bitter finish. This beer compares very well with the best Belgian Abbey Ales. OORay! Quebec!!

Apr 5, 2008 Dark brown. Aroma light hoppy and very yeasty, small head which disappears quickly. Flavor is moderately bitter with an sweet finish. Full bodied with moderate alcohol.
