dalekliz (546), San Diego, California, USA Mar 31, 2008 Completely opaque reddish-black with a bubbly tan head that dissipates quickly. Big aroma of hops, with hints of yeast, spices, and ripe fruit. Sweet taste, of hops, yeast, cherries, spices, and malt, with a bit of an alcohol bite. Nice carbonation and lingering sweet sharpness. Very tasty. posikyle (165), Alabama, USA Mar 30, 2008 Pours a opaque black color, with a rather loose head. Smell is very floral, very aromatic, almost like a perfume. Taste is very smooth, almost perfect, a little bitter up front, then a big fruity/floral finish, with a nice sutble maltiness to balance it all out. Incredibly smooth, you wouldn’t even know it’s abv is 10%+. Definitely one of the top 5 beers I’ve ever had. goldbrew (99), USA Mar 30, 2008 I consider myself to have a decent palate when rating a variety of beers. But seriously, while Unibroue’s line of beverages is great, several in their product line are all incredibly similar in aroma, mouthfeel, complexity and finish. Terrible, Fin du Mode, and Trois Pistoles are all far more alike than dissimilar. It’s enjoyable with that fruity carbonation and slight heat. I still prefer Trois Pistoles of those 3 however. Solid beer, but less of the caramel, nutty and happy zing that other strong belgian ales like Chimay Blue bring to the experience, for instance. Snojerk321 (1914), San Diego, California, USA Mar 30, 2008 750ml bottle from BevMo. Almost pitch black pour, a little scary at first, and not a very thick head. Aroma is outstanding, a lot of fruit, classic Unibroue, maybe a little chocolate on the nose. Highly carbonated, and pretty fruit forward, which contradicts the appearance. Perfect balance, more fruit on the finish, followed by smooth chocolate. IrishBoy (2685), Bakersfield, California, USA Mar 26, 2008 750 ml bottle from Hogtown Harry! Thanks for the great stuff! Nose of light funk, chocolate, toffee, and black cherries; Cloudy black with a big, long lasting, glass lacing, tan head; Flavor is tart plums, chocolate, with some contrasting sweetness; finish is very lightly bitter and fruity! redgold07 (308), Irving, Texas, USA Mar 26, 2008 Pours a dark brown color with a brown head. Aroma is of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Flavor is of roasted coffee, alcohol, and is slightly hopped. Not overwhelming in any of the flavors. Perhaps some dark fruit in there as well.
1 pt. 9.4 oz. bottle. ILoveNewBeer (113), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Mar 25, 2008 Full bodied but not creamy. Very dark yet still lets some light through the glass. My friends think that it tastes like a mild red wine, I don’t see the resemblence. hombrepalo (726), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 24, 2008 Dark muddy brown, massive head. Yeasty and vaguely fruity aromas. As dark as this is, I’m getting no chocolate/coffee flavours or aromas, so I’m assuming there is no (or very little) roasted malt in here. It’s all big bready yeast and dried fruits like raisins and prunes. Nice job once again Unibroue.
