Red black colour with a tan head. Aroma is alcohol, dried fruits. Flavour is dry, sweet, alcohol, dried fruits. Nice beer. dyetube (397), Dallas, Texas, USA Dec 9, 2007 this beer pours black with a small tan head. The aromas are of mixed fruit and spices. The flavors are belgian sugar, nutmeg, and cloves. This beer really gets better as it warms up. The alcohol becomes a little more prominent thgouhg. This is a well crafted beer from a great brewer! Cheers! joekfsu (138), Boardman, Ohio, USA Dec 9, 2007 750 ml bottle. Pours a ruby that is almost too dark to see through, small tan head. Aroma of bread and maybe wine. Initial taste is sour fruit and bread yeast. Finishes with hops and is less sour, alcohol can be noted. Light to medium body, light carbonation, some lacing. Drinkable, but would try more before I buy it again. ilovedarkbeer (1326), Dallas, Texas, USA Dec 6, 2007 Pours a dark red brown color with a fizzy bread like head. Smells of yeast and sourness. Tastes like dark fruits and yeast. Its good but its just not great. I expect more from a 98percentile. maltdog (509), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Dec 6, 2007 The cork succumbs with a struggle and a muffled pop, and I decant a surprisingly inky, matte muddiness. Brilliant back-illumination produces only the dimmest ruby glow. A sand colored, rocky head crackles busily, throbbing with animation, yet apparently devouring its own lacy leavings. I inhale the expected Unibroue nose of rummy caramelized sugar and plum, with welcomely novel whiffs of cocoa powder, cardamom-laced coffee, lemon, and pine. Warm pipe tobacco and pumpkin pie scents offer soft contrast, and actually dominate once the churning foam subsides. Syrupy and uberfruity flavors ensue: boysenberry jam and plum, unripe pineapple, tart cherry, bubblegum, and antique books and leather. A clipped finale follows; a grating conspiracy of Turkish coffee, sourdough yeastiness, balsawood shavings, and oiled metal. The overall soft palate is punctured by puppyteeth nips of lively, pinpoint carbonation, generating a rubbery and gritty effect. Our liquid sojourn concludes with a star anise and composting pear aftertaste, and cloying, clovey bittersweetness (skewed far more towards sweet.) In general, this ale offers scant complexity and jittery unbalance; a disappointing dud from a normally notable brewer. RSRIZZO (1332), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Dec 3, 2007 Aroma is mild with roasted and fruit scents. Color is a dark solid brown with a very tight tan little head. Taste is light and sweet. It has a medium body that goes down with a fizzy somewhat foamy feel. Finish is mildly sweet with a light dried fruit taste, fruity Belgian yeast and very faint roasted flavors. On the very end is a little bite and an alcohol feel. Its surprising as to how light it feels for being such a dark brew at 10.5%. and yet its full with bold flavor. Overall it a wonderful Belgian brew. emerica56 (575), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA Dec 1, 2007 This beer pours a dark brown with a a thick head that fades quick and thins out. It also leaves some minor spotted laceing along the sides of the glass. The aroma is very vinus with some bready malt and a mild acidity. As you drink it there is an initial bitterness with somr hints of pitted fruits and bready malt. The palate is full of grape and it is very smooth and leaves a nice coating on the sidewalls of your mouth. There is also a mild fall spice at the back of your mouth.
