It’s been a long time since a brew really hit me right between the eyes, but this one did. A tad on the sweet side, which is the only detraction from this wonderful beer, it pours a deep, rich coffee-colored near-black amber with an aggressive caramel colored head. The nose is an amazing blend of very light lemon and honey sweet goodness. The palate...ah, the palate. Lightly figgy, blended with cardamon and ginger, notes of honey and well-blended alcohol underlying it all to balance out the sweetness. Now mind you, it comes in a 750 ml bottle that cannot be recorked, so be prepared to drink the entire bottle upon opening. That’s my plan, and I am NOT sharing. It takes Trois Pistoles and morphs it into this totally different beer. All of the good of TP and solves the maltiness issue. Cajun (144), New Iberia, Louisiana, USA

Complex flavors - sweet malt, raisin, hops, caramel, fermented fruit - warming alcohol. Medium to full bodied. I’d rather accompany this with food than comsume as a solo. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 3, 2007 Beer poured dark, dark brown with nice head and lacing. Aroma was nondescript, but the flavor sure wasn’t. Nice fruity malty goodness with a lot of spices and a definite strong hint of cherries. Very sweet, but not overly so. Mouthfeel was really carbonated, but it seemed to fit perfectly. This could be the best Unibroue! Good beer...go try it. AgentSteve (1357), SF Bay Area, California, USA

Aroma of dates, figs, malt, molasses. Flavor is immediately caramel, dried fruits, with almost no bitterness. Not very complex, but a solid tasting beer. Will have again. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 28, 2007 Dark, ruby brown; linkering small amber head. Rich, nutty caramel aroma. Big flavor of dark roasted malts, molassas, carob, pepper, poppy seeds, alcohol, prunes and kumquat with a lingering aftertaste of smoke, burnt caramel, sweet cane syrup and white pepper. I believe I’m drinking a 2005 now, but have had many years worth, fresh and aged. Always a treat.
