RaphaelN (195), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Jun 20, 2007 Updated: Jul 11, 2007Bottle at Volo. This is a beautiful beer, that was also presented in a very fancy way by the waitress. A very dark pour. The smell was pleasing and complex, with identifiable dates, black cherries and red wine vinegar. This tasted like heaven. Just a slice of heaven in a glass. Red wine, black cherries, cumin, black grapes, black plums, and a touch of various other spices and fruits that my palate simply can’t keep up with. If you see this on the menu, you must try it! eyesandsmiles (179), Mission Viejo, California, USA Jun 19, 2007 Pungent aroma of soy sauce. Nice color. Tastes somewhat dry. Taste is dark and comes in late. Went well with a red pixie stick. LinusStick (1830), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 12, 2007 Niiiice! Aroma of dark fruits...plum, raisin mostly. Pour was a dark black with a nice 2 finger tan head that didn’t lace at all. The taste was a heavy carbonated mix of dark fruits (again) plum and raisin with hints of chocolate in the background. The beer tastes agonizingly sweet upon first sip but bitters up in the end with a medium to strong alcohol burn. Lots going on in this beer. mcox90 (617), Wilton, USA Jun 4, 2007 Large bottle shared w/ my son. I made the mistake of drinking a whole bottle myself once and paid a gastronomic price for my folly. Pours a dark brown w/ a huge foamy head. Over carbonated like most beers this style. Mouthfeel is much like soda, again the over carbonation. This is a complex busy beer. Tastes run from raisins & plums to brown sugar & chocolate. Whenever i drink this brew I have visions of 3 old hags standing around a large black kettle. Eye of newt, toe of frog, etc. Anyway, I digress. This is a good but powerful brew. I will drink it again. tkhans (50), Bangor, Wisconsin, USA Jun 3, 2007 was in florida on vacation and enjoyed a corked bottle that was not terrible a thick sweet beer with a kick bhensonb (4182), Woodland, California, USA May 31, 2007 Aroma of plummy dark fruits backed by yeast. Malt too. Looks black, but beautiful ruby color appears when placed before halogen. Beige head that didn’t stay long. Medium bodied. A bit fizzy. The dark fruit is present, along with a slight hint of phenolic resin. Definitely sweet malt, though not syrupy. The finish is actually rather dry, and tends to pucker the mouth. The bitter is adequate to be noticable in the finish. faroeviking (6016), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands May 22, 2007 Bottle. Dark brown. Sweet aroma of dark fruits, liquorice, malt and yeast. Great flavour of malt, chocolate, yeast, dark fruits, liquorice, alcohol and spices. IEBAILI (123), San Diego, California, USA May 20, 2007 Dark brown, smells of plums and cherries, malt, molasses, maybe maple syrup, something sweet that’s hard to pin down but really good. Tastes of chocolate, but not in the same way stouts taste like chocolate, it’s hard to explain this one but I like it a lot. Mouthfeel is smooth, almost creamy but not too heavy.
