jblendy (518), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Apr 12, 2007 Pours almost black brown with a ruby hue and a thick frothy tan head. Strong fruity aroma, notes of cherries, candy sugar, molasses, and a light hint of alcohol. Flavor has an overall cherry like tartness, a hint of candy sugar, notes of anise, and an alcoholic sweet finish. Palate is medium, lightly effervescent, tart, and dry, with some lingering anise. Ughsmash (3978), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Apr 9, 2007 750mL thanks to sombeast! Poured deeper brown with a dusting and a ring of off-white head. Aroma was of deeper dark fruits, some peppery yeast and a hint of herbal hops. Flavor found darker fruit and chocolate notes.. sharper, spicy accents were a tad too peppery to me.. quite enjoyable overall. This was a bit high in carbonation, but not as grating as Unibroue often is for me.. some sharp notes detract from the feel, too. Solid brew. Thanks Chris! Sombeast (151), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA Apr 4, 2007 I couldn’t believe my charming and vivacious wife brought me home a beer that said right on the lable that it was TERRIBLE! I gave her a terribly hard time about this, but she’s a good woman. I served the beer in a snifter glass and we rated it jointly as a training exercise. An aggressive pour yielded a strong two-finger tan head, which diminished at a normal rate to an 1/8 inch. The head seems to hang around indefinitely, and can be easily replenished with swirl of the glass. Aroma of carbonation, malt, and just a note of smoke and alcohol. Color is a clear dark brown. Carbonation is fairly high, typical of what I have come to expect of Unibroue beers, delivering both a smooth creaminess and a little ‘pop’ on the tongue. Flavor is moderate dominated by toasted malt, a little nuttiness, some residual sweetness, and just enough bitterness to provide balance. Finish is a mild and pleasant toasted malt bitterness. A little lacing is left on the glass. As usual, Unibroue has done well, this is a terribly good beer in my book. mbeem (104), New Hope, Alabama, USA Apr 4, 2007 Wow!! This was delicious!! Poured a loverly dark-brown into the goblet with a frothy light-tan head that laced nicely as it was drunk. HUGE fruity aroma with hints of malt, spices and light alcohol. Beer is full-bodied with a taste that is rich and satisfying with dark fruit, spices, roasted malt and a just-there-enough presence of alcohol. Wonderful beer!! b33r (363), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Apr 1, 2007 Nice very dark brown color with a frothy, large light brown head, which diminishes and leaves a light lacing. Aroma is amazing, with rich malts and fruits. Smells a lot like rootbeer. Flavor is good, very malty, a little sweet with a light fruitiness. Moz (613), Gothenburg, Sweden Mar 31, 2007 Bottle, 75cl. Dark brown colour with a large tan head. Sweet and fruity aroma, slightly spicy. Big flavour, fruity & complex, a little bit too alcoholic though.
