Pour is a dark brown with some red and a nice head. Some floaters. Aroma of spice, yeast, and dark fruit. Flavor of many complex dark fruits, caramel, yeast, spices, and some roasted malt. An excellent dark belgian style ale.

Bottle. Pours dark brown, lightly hazy. Head is quite fizzy and bubbly - not imrpressive looks. Aroma, though, is quite stunning. Roasted malts, some caramel. But especially, it has a lot of complex spices... it is difficult to discern them, but they smell terrific. Flavour builds on this. A little smoky, some caramel and spices ’en masse’. Stuinning.

Almost opaque brown-black with medium-sized khaki, lasting head. Aroma is Belgian yeast, bubblegum, spice and faint alcohol. Initial taste is similar but milder and less complex, with more bread flavor. Finish is strong and dry. Medium-light and smooth palate. Aftertaste is dry, vinous dark fruit and warms your insides. Alcohol is well hidden, yet something doesn’t seem quite right about the flavor - slight metallic note maybe. Or maybe just too wine-like for my tastes. Still though, a nice beer.

Pours dark with a 2 finger fluffy almost tan head. Aroma is dominated by dark fruits. Dark and citrus fruits along with spices dance on the palate. A good amount of carbonation. Nicely coats the mouth and finishes dry. Great ale.

or a long time, just intrigued by the bottle. All in all, i found it fairly solid, and quite heavy, but not quite up to the internal hype that I had built for it. I wished it was more complex, and darker. I felt that it just wasn’t decidedly dark or not dark. It floated along in the middle not really deciding which way to go. I wanted something super roasty, chocolaty and maybe even burnt. Had it just said "strong ale" on there, I might have been a bit more understanding of what it was trying to be. Still though, worth enjoying, maybe with a friend, for this is a mighty ale.

750ml bottle. deep ruby brown glimmer with a nice little above avg head. the first thing i want to say is..."best before 2011," damn!!!!! that’s a beer. this could easily outlast some of the bottles in my wine cellar. this brew has a nice thick aroma that is unusually high, even for a belgian (style) ale. the aromas almost all cover the 4 major (legit) food groups. major fruits all over, even tofu...and some herbs/light spice. there’s even ’a breath of fresh air’ in the aroma, that is, for the beer conessieur. taste? there’s an overall fluffiness in the mouthfeel, and a crazy kind of cheese going on in the flavor, as well as some off-shoot vegetables. this beer is crazy sweet. A+ here, definitely a repeat buy, when i can find it.
