ChazyRPh (571), Chazy, New York, USA Jan 30, 2007 aged approximately 2 years - Semi-opaque brown pour with a small off white head. Aroma of macerated fruits...relatively boozy aroma. Raisin and plum aroma. Chocolate covered raisins soaked in alcohol. Sweet with some hints of alcohol present. Very tasty. Pit fruits, mellow flavors melded together...Delicious. JK (2945), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Jan 27, 2007 Like hte 15, this beer is focused on the alcohol content. It is prominent in the flavor and aroma. Fruity, but not as fruity as some higher quality Belgians. Lots of malt as well. Simple overall and lacking complexity. The palate is good but not as thick as I would like. Dark brown, I thought this was an abbot ale. joebrew (608), Farewell Minny; Hello Puyallup, Washington, USA Jan 27, 2007 Pours a dark brown with a minimal head. Aromas of dark fruit, toffee, and a little of the estery earthiness, as well as a hint of sweet banana. Flavor is dominated by malt with very pronounced raisen, chocolate, and sweet. A very nice beer. robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Jan 26, 2007 very dark brown, no much head to it. aroma has alot of malt in it. not as fruity as i’m used to from Unibroue. not one of my favorites. BrandonB (87), Denton, Texas, USA Jan 20, 2007 Bottle Marked 2004. Pours a very dark brown, with smaller tan head that dies rather quickly with stubble lacing. Aromas of Chocolate, light coffee, yeast, faint hints of malt and fruits. Flavor is nice, sweet, and smooth. Hints of raisins and malt come through, with other dark fruits and caramel. Finish is nice, fizzy, but smooth.
Optigon (561), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jan 19, 2007 Fizzy flavor with a dark pour. Flavors akin to spiced cola in a strange way. Rather malty. Not a favorite from Unibroue. Lunkie (1020), Glen Iris, Australia Jan 19, 2007 Mlat hop aroma with spice. Black colour with great head and lacing. Smooth malt hop flavour with citrus aftertaste. Fizzy palate. talon1117 (611), Bellvue, Colorado, USA Jan 18, 2007 BB 06-11. Dark brown, almost chocolate colored pour; head is beige, small, and fizzy with nearly all diminishing and no lacing. Bold and nice nose; chocolate, plum, yeast, light coffee bean, raisin, and some definate notes of alcohol. Flavor is very similar and very malty; chocolate, brown sugar, and yeast make up the malty base with raisin, plum, and light coffee filtering in to make it complex. Palate is lively, medium, and almost silky in texture, despite the carbonation, with a fairly bold alcohol presence. Finishes average length (for a Belgian) and sweet with chocolate and raisin and noticable alcohol presence. Nice, very malty, unquestionably bold Belgian from Unibroue. Definately great as a desert-type beer, but still remaining quite drinkable. A little age might make this one much better, less carbonation and alcohol presence, but even still, a solid brew with lots of character.
