ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Jan 17, 2007 2004: Dark brown pour, moderate head, above average lacing and retention. Aroma is very dusty yeast with sugars, lesser notes of dark fruits and malts. Alcohol well hidden, which is good. Sweet finish, fairly heavy beer. However, the flavors and complexity never jumped at me even with an older bottle. DO NOT DRINK WITH FISH! RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Jan 12, 2007 One of my favorites from unibroue. Leesy, sweet fruit flavor. I wouldn’t want it any sweeter, but it’s just about right.. UselessGdTaste (363), Long Beach, California, USA Jan 10, 2007 Saw this beer and thought to myself "If beers like Pabst say they are wonderful but taste terrible, then a beer that says that it is terrible right on the bottle must be great." It was pretty darn good. Sweet is about the best description. Most likely a bit too sweet for the style, but if you can deal with the sweet, it is a very nice beer to enjoy. TomDecapolis (3127), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 4, 2007 Thanks to BankerJoe for bringing along to a tasting to share. Pours a dark brown with hints of amber and a bubbly off white head that left some lacing. Aroma of dark fruits, caramel, some Belgian "Unibroue" yeast, very fruity, Flavor was candy sweetness, lots of carbonation, malty, dark fruits, caramel and surprisingly lingering hop bitterness despite the age. scania (184), Malmö, Sweden Jan 1, 2007 Bottle. Dark brown, tan head. Aroma: Malt, yeast and alas cork. Flavor: Malty and yeasty. Low bitterness. Warming. kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 28, 2006 25 oz bottle, 2004 vintage, via Secret Santa Murphy (pdee), Christmas 05. Pours a clear dark brown colored body under a fairly small very fizzy beige head that lasted forever due to the excess carbonation. Aroma is classic Unibroue. Lots of fruitiness, though with a slightly thicker malt presence than most of their beers, with lots of their characteristic yeast. Notes of raison, plum, and coffee. Flavor mirrors aroma, various dark fruits, lots of Unibroue yeast, even stronger on the raison and plum. Lightly peppery on the finish. Mouthfeel is identical to most of the other Unibroue beers I’ve had. Medium bodied with tons of fizzy prickly carbonation that makes for a foamy mess. This is probably the beer that benefited more than any I’ve had in a long time from being allowed to breathe for a long time. Each of the three glasses I had out of this bottle were much better 45 minutes after pouring than directly after. The extended time spent in my Chimay chalice really let alot of the carbonation blow off. Heathen (723), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Dec 26, 2006 Bottle. Poured a dark brown from the bottle and appeared black and opaque in the glass with a huge almost soapy off-white head that was mostly lasting. There was beautiful carbonation and I could actually see the head building up from the bottom as it slowly disolved from the top. Lacing was fair. There was light malt aroma and some light yeast but plum, apple and red wine were the dominant odors. There was also a touch of alcohol. I loved the aroma, but it could have been a little stronger with less alcohol. There were heavy flavors of sweet, dark fruit (like figs) and a touch of chocolate with just a little bitterness and a short finish. The flavor improved greatly as it warmed. The body was medium to full and both a little dry and a little syrupy with fizzy carbonation and a moderate alcohol finish. Great carbonation but not enough body. It was a little different than other Unis I’ve had, but still had that special something that lets you know it’s a Uni. kevin62 (267), New Jersey, USA Dec 26, 2006 750 bottle-This poured out to a dark, cola looking color with a huge tan head. The aroma was of malt mostly. The taste was also malt, spices, like cloves, similiar to Aventinus with a slightly bitter finish.Great lacing for this beer.Good brew!
