GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Sep 10, 2006 Bottle. Dark brown color with off white head that didn’t leave any lace. Smelled of dried fuits and malty molasses. Flavors included molasses, green apple, soy, and alcohol. Not a huge fan of this one. DuffMan (2719), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Sep 6, 2006 Dark muddy brown, massive head. Yeasty and vaguely fruity aromas. As dark as this is, I’m getting no chocolate/coffee flavours or aromas, so I’m assuming there is no (or very little) roasted malt in here. It’s all big bready yeast and dried fruits like raisins and prunes. Again, a nod to craftsmanship, but I’m not the biggest fan of the style. SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Aug 29, 2006 In the bomber bottle at the Huber Haus Unibroue tasting. Pours a dark brown nearly black color with a fleeting tan head. Spicey, with a wine-like aroma. Strong alcohol burn to the palate. Raisins, dates, and plums add to the fruity wine flavor. Has a definite drying finish. Good stuff here. DarkMagus (433), San Jose, California, USA Aug 29, 2006 A nearly black color, some purple-red highlights... had a head that lasted (literally) for hours. Had the characteristic Unibroue aroma... a nice rich yeastiness with elements of fresh fruits (apples, pears, grapes, blueberries, blackberries), some light spiciness. Dark, rich flavors of fresh fruits (blueberries, cherries, apples, pears), dried fruits (cherries, plums, raisins), yeast, citrus, spices, cooked fruits (apples, pears), malts, dark chocolate and something like fruit-flavored candy. Absolutely amazing. Very dense, very rich, definitely at the top end of the Unibroue line. voota (761), Melbourne, Australia Aug 29, 2006 Great looking bottle, marked 2004.

Pours a dark brown with an off-white bubbly rocky and large head. Beautiful aroma of vanilla, prunes, whiskey and banana. The first mouthful was a little overcarbonated, but as the beer settled and warmed (even more than the serving temp of about 13degC) a sweet alcoholic bouquet of oak, more vanilla and dried fruits came through. There was little hop flavours and the finish was remarkably clean and lacked any alcohol burn as I’ve felt in so many belgians before. Overall, its not an amazingly complex beer, but gives enough to be interesting, whilst still maintaining an incredible balance. Fantastic jefcon (997), Arlington, Virginia, USA Aug 26, 2006 This beer LOOKS like coffee in the glass once the head and bubbles disperse. Aromas of champagne, yeast, and dark fruit (figs, raisins). The dry finish is substantial, but leaves a substantial amount of fruit on the tongue. Rough, but light, mouthfeel. Tastes of earth, brown bread, wine, raisins, plums and soda. Maybe is bit too much carbonation prevents this great ale from being as smooth and flavorful as it could be. Otherwise, no complaints. Shyam (71), Los Angeles, California, USA Aug 23, 2006 Updated: Aug 24, 2006aroma contains deeo yeasty, earthy an dark fruit, malty, spicey, and other fruit notes. pours a very dark brown with some slight burgandy notes in the light with a medium immediately dissapating to quite small tan head. flavor includes large yeast and vineous notes along with some lighter carmely maltiness with some spice not sure exactly what spice. mouth feel is not thin with a nice carbonation to it. finish is not so great too small. snowden719 (130), USA Aug 23, 2006 Updated: Aug 24, 2006Pours dark brown almost black with a large effervescent white head that immediately dissapates to almost nothing.
