beerBB (132), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 9, 2006 dark brown, w/ small head. Aroma is good with malt, spices, and some fruit. Alcohol is noticable but not overbearing. Flavor is sweet with spices, molasses undertones. Rosted malt becomes more apparent as the bottle warms. Definatly should be drank at room temp. mynie (44), Waterloo, Iowa, USA Jun 7, 2006 2004 vintage. I am impatient.
Dark brown, damn near black and completely opaque. Small brown head. Is this a stout?
DEEP odor. Alcohol throughout, ripe fruit and a pile of herbs I will never know the proper names of. Black licorice is somewhere in there, along with allspice.
Alcohol. Wood. Spice. The flavor is even throughout and these three notes permeate everything. Intense. The aftertaste is sweet and dry, makes you crave for more.
Easily the strongest Unibroue I’ve had. For as wicked as it is it’s pretty easy to drink, too. eaglefan538 (2351), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 7, 2006 Bottled in 2004. Poured a really dark brown-black with burgundy edges. Nice initial head that turned to a thin covering in minutes. Lacing was uniform (carbonation generated) and slid down the glass quickly. The aroma was yeasty, spicey (coriander in a beer this dark?), and mildly oaked. The the flavor featured oak, candi sugar, some dark fruits, and a bit of chocolate. First sip nailed me: the alcohol, very warming. Mouthfeel was moderately bodied but not thick. Enjoyable. badinplaid (103), USA Jun 4, 2006 This is a great Belgian style brew. Rich and fruity aroma, dark chocolate appearance and a rich and creamy head. Would definatly buy again. Philip (436), Illinois, USA Jun 1, 2006 2004 Vintage. Despite it being overly carbonated, I enjoyed this one quite a bit. This is the most aged sample I’ve had, and I wouldn’t mind seeing what a few more years do to it. Its a rich, clove and allspice note on the nose leading into caramel and molasses. Lots of dark fruits, and then Belgian funk on the finish. I think this is the best of the Unibroue series. MrEcted1 (144), Wheat Ridge, Colorado, USA May 31, 2006 This is my favorite brew produced by Unibroue. Pour a dark brown with an authentic Belgian style head which is hard to control. Typical Belgian style dark fruits rule this beer, but definitely done very well. This is a lip-smackin’ brew that will make you wish you had more once you finish your bottle. I highly recommend this beer. Again, as far as Unibroue beers go, this is my favorite. restless7 (104), Lenexa, Kansas, USA May 30, 2006 Definitely belgium strong ale type, with a bit stronger alcohol finish than St. Bernardus or Chimay Blue. Somewhat quickly disipating head, nice aroma. warriorx99 (85), USA May 28, 2006 This beer pours dark brown and entirely untransparent with a tan fizzy head that’s persistent. The aroma is sweet and bready with a taste that’s malty with a very bready after-taste and that sweet spice taste that makes those unibroue beers so good.
