Pours a murky dark brown with a 3-4 finger head that lingers. Raisin cherry. Mildly sweet and tart, but finishes bitter. Medium body. Moderately fizzy. Medium finish. A touch boozy but moderately drinkable. I like it.

Pours jet black with off-white head. Frothy head, substantial lacing. Sweet citrus, yeast on the nose. Dark fruit (dates, figs, plums), Belgian yeast, hints of caramel and vanilla, with a touch of bitterness on the back of the tongue.

Poured from 750mL bottle (best before 01-18-2018, saved for a year). Light black with tan head. Aroma has lots of sweet raisin, fig, and plum, a little unibroue belgian yeast and citrus notes. Taste similar, but the alcohol comes through and gives it a little kick.

Poured in to a tulip. This beer pours a very black with a head of toasted caramel that reaches 1.5 fingers and doesn’t let go. the scent and taste go hand in hand with coffee and earthy nutty flavor. This is a awesome ale brewed to perfection and gives the best taste aroma I have had yet

Decent, but it doesn’t taste like a real Belgian to me. Unibroue’s yeast isn’t particularly interesting, and this beer is overly sweet. All I am getting is molasses, brown sugar, dark candi sugar, and a little plum/fig/date flavor. Next time I’ll stick with Trois Pistoles, a much better beer.

Pours earthy chestnut brown with a massive foaming bubbly tan-white head. Leaves wet lacing and fades to a rim and light coating. Aroma is strong with Belgian yeast, slightly smoky malt and mild notes of darkfruit. Taste is rich and malty with a sweet finish. Plenty of flavors - caramel, prunes, cherries and a yeasty echo. Just a touch of alcohol evident. Very good; a touch too sweet for excellence.

Bottle at home from backlog notes 07. Pours a hazy darker brown color with a medium plus sized beige head. The aroma and flavor have caramel, brown sugar, raisins, spices, the typical Unibroue yeast, this was one of the early bigbbeers for me and I still enjoy many of the Unibroue lineup.

Dark brown with lasting thin tan head; aroma is slightly smoky malty and sweet Belgian yeast; Flava is richly malty with considerable tangy/tart fruity (cherry?) notes with malty sugary backbone; feels a bit light but fizzy and zingy; finishes sweet malty tangy

750 ml bottle from La Vista Liquor. Pours coffee black with a thin khaki head that doesn’t retain, little lacing. Aroma of figs, plums, sweet cherries, black grapes, alcohol, and caramel malt. Has vinous and port-like qualities in the aroma and flavor. Earthy notes, not too sweet due to the dry yeast influence and high attenuation. Very little bitterness, more fruity, sweet, and vinous. Alcohol is apparent but not too much, still smooth to drink.

Transfer from BA review on 5-12-12- Served in a 10 oz chalice glass Appearance – Served a deep brownish-red, nearly black color with a tiny off white head. The head faded fast to give only a little bit of lacing. Smell – The aromas are big and bold of dark fruit. Cherries and plum are quite big and when mixed with a lighter alcohol, yeast, and sweet fig aroma give a very nice fruity smell. Taste – The taste follows the nose very nicely. A cherry sweetness starts out the taste. There is a lighter tasting dark bread flavor mixed with the cherry. These flavors are soon met with some other darker fruit flavors that come to the tongue. The fig and plum that were present in the nose, as well as some lighter flavors of molasses and yeast mix with the cherry and bread. At the end these flavors mingle with a light warming alcohol flavor, that all in all, leave a very pleasant sweet and warming aftertaste on the tongue. Mouthfeel –The mouthfeel is a bit above normal in thickness for the average brew, but light for a beer of this high abv. The carbonation level is quite average and very appropriate for matching the body and the flavors. Overall – This was one very nice and tasty brew. It had some great dark fruit flavors with just the right hint of warming alcohol to make it very easy to sit back and sip with enjoyment.
