Commercial Description:
La Terrible is a dark brown beer on lees and is part of a collection of exotic and refined Unibroue beers brewed using 100% natural raw materials. It may be drunk as an aperitif or as an after dinner digestive. It is equally a perfect accompaniment to the above-mentioned dishes or a pleasant alternative to coffee.

The ominous darkness of this bottle promised an exciting reviewing session. I was not let down by the pour: a sinister black hue topped of a fizzy tan crown that dissipated quickly into the void. A foreboding atmosphere accompagnies the first whiff. Many aromas intertwine and interact as you inspect the nose. Dark malts and fruits echo each other and call for a sip. I resisted as I could, and tried to analyze all these sensations. Roasted coffee, dark chocolate and oak dominate the background while blackberries, raspberries and apples mingle with salted butter, biscuits and toast. The first taste was surprisingly uneventful. Very few of the fragrances I had recognized were noticeable and a large malt profile seemed to quench all pretenders. Roasted sugars and coffee reign terribly over the flavor of this brew giving it a stout-like quality. The mouthfeel is slightly redeemed by the velevety smooth palate that finishes dry and salty. I was a bit disappointed by the second part of this beer - maybe I was expecting too much. Not my favorite Unibroue.

Dark with a soft white head. Fruity aroma. The flavor is definately Unibroue, raisins, figs, some sour. Medium finish. I likey.

Dark brown color. Small head with good lacing. Tried out of bottle. I really enjoyed this beer. More like a stout than a strong ale.

I like the Belgian strong ales they do but they all blend together to me. Big, alcoholic warmth, plum notes. I prefer the Ephemere and lighter offerings for some reason.

Pours like root beer from the 750ml. bottle: An infused nose of plum, grape, and alcohol pairs with a sweet malted, spiced, doughy, smooth carbonated flavor and body. Unibroue’s signature yeast flavors dominate. Drinkability: It’s enjoyable just how complex this beer is. Rebuy: Yes. #177 on 31102009 "BOO", DG.

My 1000th rathing - 2007 Bottle from my very first trade, thanks douglas88! - Pours thin and dark brown with a medium beige head...aroma is inviting, cocoa, plum, apple, sweet malt and Unibroue yeast...flavour is similar, fruity and doughy, spice, dk malt, roast, raisin and creme...pleasant carbonation and not even the slightest abv burn...easily my favorite of their offerings so far...

Corked and caged Bomber via Bonster. Understated and gentle is where I must start with this on all fronts. Pours dark with some nice brown tinges at the edge of the glass. Nose is whispy and ephemeral but strikes of stonefruit and wet bark. Body is unassuming and gentle. Malts (not radios) appear as body progresses. This beer glides up on you and gently hits you like a bag of wet cement.

Draft at International Beer Garten (Lutz, FL). Pours a deep, dark brown with a ruby hue along the edges and a nice tan head. Has the characteristic Unibroue yeast aroma with the addition of dried fruit and grapes. The flavor includes more of the grape notes along with malt and yeast. Quite nice and the 10.5 is well hidden and not at all overpowering. Reminds me a little of their Trois Pistoles.

You think if the beer name was "Terrible" the brewer would try their best to make it taste good. Actually, is not great, its not terrible, is just okay. The to me the style was not so much as a belguim strong but an imperial stout with weak hops. The flavors come from dark malts
