Bottle. Very dark bown color with nice brown head. Woody, malty aroma, oak, fruits, figs, some yeast and vanilla. Smooth malty flavor, turning hoppy and a bit more aggressive after a while. Fruity notes, pepper and other spices.

75 cL bottle, thanks to Carsten for bringing me this from Boston. Pours deep brown with a huge light brown head, quickly diminishing. Aroma is malty, alcohol heavy wineous, notes of dried fruit and a slight yeasty spice note. Flavour is rather sweet caramel malty. Has notes of fruits and yeast in the flavour. The yeast holds some vague spices but no match to the Belgian rolemodels. Has a light acidity lingering. Ends slight herbal/spiced with a mild bitterness and medium dry.

The aroma is sweet with notes of chocolate and plums combined with a slight sourness. The color is pitch black and it has a beutiful light brown head. The flavor is sweet with notes of yeast, citrus, plums, and wood. It turns somewhat bitter combined with the sourness - which is a really good balance to the sweet start. A little too sour for my liking. But the body is good. Thanks a lot to Alex (Fiulijn) for trading me this one.

(Bottle 75 cl) Very dark and opaque, very small, lacing head. Pronounced alcohol in the nose. Very malty with notes of dried fruits - especially raisins. Odd underlying sourness. I’ve had this stored for six months - I think I should keep the remaining bottles for a couple of more years. 310505

Bottled. Deep amber colour, mediumsized brown head,. Aroma is really strong raisiny and alcoholic (barley wineish) with caramel malts and some yeast in it too. Flavour is raisins, alcohol, some sweet malts and also vanilla & chocolate. Aftertaste is really vanillaish.

Bottled. Very dark brown. Subtle berry aroma. Dryish and lightly yeasty, otherwise surprisingly clean. Notes of sugar and perhaps chocolate. Complex, but very, very subtle for a beer of this magnitude.

Dark color, almost black, with small sized but compact head. It has a light aroma of malt but no oxidization, light wood, yeast and cork. Correct body strength; there is some malt and caramel flavor, light oxidation, and no bitterness at all. The final shows a strange feeling of sweetener.
Still interesting overall, but not suitable for long aging.

Dark brown color; grey giant rocky head. Sour and malty aroma; light roasted malt. Round taste, malty, pretty sweet; good body strength, perfectly hiding the high alcohol content. Very good Abbey or Christmas Ale, but not impressive (no originality, no hop character, …).

26th October 2008. Very dark brown beer with a cream head. Mild and smooth but quite dry. Subtle milk chocolate and subtle cherry. Dry finish. Hides the alcohol very well but overall the beer feels a little tired.
