It is prominent in the flavor and aroma. Fruity, but not as fruity as some higher quality Belgians. Lots of malt as well. Simple overall and lacking complexity. The palate is good but not as thick as I would like. Dark brown, I thought this was an abbot ale. beerbuzzmontreal (2946), Montreal, Quebec, Canada

Intriguing, inviting aroma of licorice with malty caramel notes, dark fruit and spices too. Dark brown color with a ruby shine, very fugaceous light brown head, it became a ring around the glass in a matter of seconds. Subtle, gentle and caressing flavor of licorice, dark fruits and spices with a bitter finish. As the beer warms up some chocolate notes appear. Light body, soft carbonation, liquorous texture. It’s good but the body is much too light, with a fuller body this beer would be awesome. Dogbrick (2925), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 5, 2003 This beer is nearly black with a thin and creamy light tan head. Quick lacing. Similar apprearance to a Schwarzbier. The aroma is yeasty with notes of alcohol and dark fruit. Rich body with flavors of malt, plum, chocolate and alcohol. Nicely complex, and the finish is warming with a touch of hops. I really liked this Belgian. skortila (2915), Bunnik, Netherlands

Dark brown coloured with a great looking beige head. Taste is sweet, unibroue yeasty, peppery, some cinnamon, dark and dried fruits, raisins and some peach. Great yesss. 5000 (2900), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 8, 2005 Bottle: (2004) Dark Brown, nearly black, HUGE frothy beige head, appears honeycombed from outside the glass, huge empty caverns thoughout the head, sporatic lacing. Wonderful aroma, quite candyish, sugary sweet, light dark pitted fruit. Sweet malty start, picking up more sweetness as it finishes. Subtle dark pitted fruit, quite subtle. Seems not as complicated as I once remembered it. Body and mouthfeel also seem fairly average, down a bit from a year ago (roughly). Raisins, plums, and a smidgen of plum on the finish. Still remains sweet, malty, and slightly bready. Just seems to have thinned out a bit. Not very complex, good otherwise.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Oct 2, 2008 Shining mahogany body with a white ring around the rim of the glass. Moderate aroma of orange shells. Rich and exciting flavours of grapes, sweet berries, prunes and brown sugar ending up with a suitable bitter touch, added a little alcohol tingle. Soft carbonation. Worth repeating in larges quantum than the 100ml taster I had on EBF (Copenhagen, 14.09.2008). after4ever (2863), Brier, Washington, USA

Overbearing pears and green apples on the nose. Almost caustically fizzy. Ginger, molasses, dried fig, and prunes on the mid-palate, with a puckery long sour finish. Deep brown, enormous toffee head, good lace. Caramel flavour, great bitterness. Sweet, creamy, a very good beer, but it seemed like a dopplebock?
