COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

6 Slight tomato aroma, maybe I left this too long?
4 Deep honey, small persistent head.
7 Lovely rich retronasals, a touch yeasty and definitely /sur lis/, Quite like a fullers vintage, but more hoppy, more woody, fuller, and generally more punchy. However, it lacks the sophistication of a FV
4 Very full palate, a touch yeasty. Finish is very full and rich, almost a bit sticky. Finish carries all those ideas to their natural conclusion. Big and sticky and heavy. Yet strangely not too stick, nor too heavy.
15 I am so glad I left this to age, the heaviness of a high alcohol beer has been mellowed in a very classy way.

bottle 330 ml aged at least 3 years on his way from Nebraska to Estonia, shared with Anna and Fat Phil ..Color copper. Taste sweet full body character of fruity bit steamy hoppy barley wine.. This beer I have tasted first time around 1996 and tastes as good as my old memories

Bottle. Darker, slightly orange brown with a light tan head. Peppery aroma, sweet, dark fruits, spice, and a touch of booze. Flavor is nicely spicy, almost like some all spice, citrus and dark fruits, and rich malty toffee finish. Medium body with bubblier carbonation. Nice

Looks like muddy water in color. Nice carbonation puts a nice amount of white head that last of about 3 or 4 minutes. Not much going on in the aroma. I get a fruity ester and mild malt in the background. Almost get a clove or banana aspect from it. LiteWait shared her bottle with me. I think It’s ok. Nothing mind blowing.

Murky brown, almost a caramel color. ¼ inch off white head. Good lacing down the snifter. Nose is dull, almost get a sweetness but can’t make out what the “sweet” is. Malt sweetness with a Belgian spice. A nice brew I would drink and I got this 750 ml bottle at the local Market on sale. Shared bottle with AirForceHops.

Lots of alcohol here with raisins being the dominant flavor. This can be pretty hard to drink due to the strong alcohol flavor, but it’s taste is very complex and memorable. If you are going to drink Maudite, only have 1 or 2 or it may be all you taste all night.

Bottle 33 cl. Poured dark brown in colour with off-white head. Yeast and dark fruits in aroma. Flavour is mostly plums and raisins. Quite heavy to drink.

355ml bottle. Pours an almost totally opaque dark chestnut, with a large, creamy off-white head, which endures very well. Sweet, yeasty notes are strong on the nose, as expected from this style of beer. Caramel malt and the merest whiff of flowery hops support this. A light bitterness is present to start, moving into a rich, sweet malt body, well-rounded out by yeasty smoothness. A slightly powdery finish shows almost weizen-like banana notes. I am not usually a fan of the Belgian styles - I find them a bit too sweet - but this is more than palatable, and worthy of its high rating.
