COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Auburn pour with small tan head. Aroma is yeast, spices, some dark fruits. Flavor is some spicy hops, with sweet finish that has some alcohol warming that builds with every sip.

750 mL bottle, aged approximately two years. Pours nearly opaque dark brown, with very little tan head. Aroma is sweet, malty, brown sugar, some dark fruit, a bit of spicy hop. Flavor is similar, if a bit generically malty sweet, baking spice, sweet fruits. Decent, but a little too sweet and un-complex.

Strong malt presence. Amber malts, some fruitiness. Nice mixed flavor. Banana esters, alcohol burn at the end.

Easy poor and well carbonated. Very dark amber with a thin head that replenishes itself for several minutes - helps the beer give off a very nice malt aroma with a slight yeast behind it. Nice spicy hop taste is combined with a bubbly and dry palate. Good ABV and the malt aftertaste isn’t bad either.

medium copper with dark orange fringes, a light tan head, good retention and lacing, body isn’t doing it for me... very Belgian aroma, Belgian yeast, alcohol, a little sweetness on the front, ok... the taste is super super boring, light flavor overall, belgian yeast, candy sugar, alcohol... pass on this

Bottle from Mane Liquor. My favourite of the Unibroue range so far. Pours a murky brown-red with a large tan head that quickly shrinks down to a ring. Aroma is yeast, dark fruits - plums, sweet brown sugar. Spicey cloves and earthy sweetness surround the mouth. Alcohol is noticable. Great tasting beer with a slightly boozy kick

This beer has a wonderful carmel/red color. There are hints of caramel and coriander. Very nice Belgian ale taste. Very drinkable with a smooth texture and medium flavor.

Appearance: deep amber-red, with a short bubbly head shrinking to a collar; no lacing. Aroma: yeast, brown sugar, flowery dark fruit and spices. Taste:light spiciness and clove, earthy sweetness: brown sugar and some floral hints, with an alcohol kick at the end. Finish: medium lingering crisp light toasted bread, with a hint of sweetness and a pleasant light dryness. Notes: Very good. Complex and good strong alcohol, but balanced. Great high carbonation.
