Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Mahogany pour no head, but his is on tap. Can’t get much aroma in here. Tate is more pike the Belgian golden ales I have had, such as pranqster. Good brew l, I just expected more body from a Belgium dark.

From a 12 fl. oz. bottle with an expiration date of 03-20-11. It pours a cloudy, mahogany brown with a lng lasting tan head. Fermented in the bottle so the yeast aromas are strong upon opening, along with hops and maybe clove. Solid mouthfeel. Hops in the flavor tone down the strong alcohol flavor to balance it off in good fashion. Finishes mildly dry. I do not normally like Belgian Strong Ales but I make an exception with this one.

Pours a dark orange with a clean white head with small bubbles tracking the side of the glass Fresh fruity, citrus aroma. Rich fruity flavour, not much of the malt comes through, but predominant yeast flavour. Very drinkable.

Bottle: Cloudy brown with a small beige head. Light Belgian spices in the aroma along with yeast, bananas, and a bready character. Tastes right on par with the aroma. Dry and lingering spices in the finish. Ehh, not overly stimulating.

The contrast between the beer and the head is striking. Seems like usually beers like this have a darker head. Anyway, this beer is great and superior in many ways to some Trappist beers I’ve had. Is that heresy?

Pours milky medium brown with a sort of ashy beige 1.5 finger creamy head. Aroma is huge on fruity yeast, grapes, cherries, over yeasted bread dough, wheat, wet hay. Flavor is chewy candied dates, raisins, plums, a hind of mild pomegranate, granny smith apple peels, orange peels, vanilla frosting, cherry, a decent amount of caramel, and some toast for good measure. Finish is burnt sugar along with lots of fruity notes fading away, a bit yeasty in a sourdough kinda way. Body is medium-thick and slightly sticky with a slightly dry finish, slightly over carbonated.
