Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

From 750ml bottle. Great aroma, citrus fruit cloves, malt. Rich deep brown colour. Flavors of yeast, cloves, banana, and citrus fruit, a little spicy and at 8% this is a fantastic beer.

Poured a very thick (2” plus) off white head. Translucent dark amber brown (mahogany). Floral/fruit aromatics in the nose. Medium bodied. A strong spice/acidic grapefruit and ginger taste (and clove??) with a noticeable hop bitterness that balances the flavors. Almost like a fine wine or cognac in taste. Alcohol is only slightly noticed. Somewhat dry, sticky finish with a lingering, slight sweetness. Not a favorite but a good change of pace.

2005 Vintage Caged/Corked 750ml Best By: 06-28-08 Poured into a Unibroue Chalice a nice semi-cloudy reddish brown color, nice carbonation, nice little creamy off-white head, which leaves some nice small islands and sticky lacing. The nose is malty, slight yeast, slight spices, and caramel. The taste is slightly sweet, malty/yeasty, nice tones of spice, and caramel. Medium body, slight over carbonation. Alcohol hidden very well. A nice complex brew. Very drinkable. This is my second go round with this brew, still a joy to drink, highly recommended.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a very dark amber color, almost a brown with a slightly off white head. The aroma is primarily a nice sweet malt. The palate is nice, slightly dry but it feels like it fills the mouth. The flavors are strong, there are some hints of molasses and fruit but with a strong malty background. The alcohol is not overly strong, but it does provide some warmth. All in all, this was a very excellent beer.

Trappist glass. Sweet yeasty aroma, strong malt character. Pours a red mahogany, some fluffy white head. Malty flavor, toasty with lots of red fruit sweetness. Dry on the tongue, with a foamy mouth feel. Nice strong ale.
