COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

bottle. Poured cloudy orange-red with an initially large off-white head that recedes. It has that "unibroue" aroma. The carbonation has a bite. The flavour is peppery, yeast notes, some citrus and up front alcohol. Finish is sticky and stale. But not the worst Unibroue I’ve tried.

beautiful cloudy mahogany color pours with lively foamy head, not substantial on the lacing, yeasty bready doughy aroma complemented with clove, honey and nutmeg, highly carbonated, medium body, long sweet finish, best enjoyed cool not cold, great effort from Unibroue, extra overall point for having Satan on the label!

Warning! Early amateur rating! Sweet and slightly caramelly beer. Only a little fruit. Traces of chocolate. Dry finish. Very nice.

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2010 Bottle. A - Slightly hazed, deep amber bronze color. Slightly larger than average sized, foamy, sticky, slightly thick/dense, white head with just a hint of toasted brown color. Good retention leaving a nice layer of lace. S - Definitely has that Unibroue yeast aroma. Sweet malt and golden fruit comes out pretty strong. Sweet, spiced bread aroma. T - Sweet bready flavors are quite strong. Also has a good amount of apple, orange, and cherry. Caramel and spiced notes along with a hint of vanilla. The Unibroue yeast is strong in the flavor as well. M - Lighter side of medium body with about average carbonation. A little thin on the feel. D - Pretty easy to drink. A touch on the sweet side, but the flavors are nice. No problem finishing my glass, and wouldn’t mind another one. Notes: Best before 09/30/12. Decent beer with plenty of fruity sweetness. Definitely had that Unibroue taste, not a bad thing but just similar to others. Enjoyable beer, but I wan’t exactly wowed by it. Like other Unibroue beers, I thought this was nice but not amazing.

Poured from bottle into glow-in-the-dark Eskimo Joe’s cup, explosive head, carmel color, typical belgian aroma. Taste is a little flat, medium to heavy body, not bad overall. Not my favorite Unibroue, but still wouldn’t pass if one was offered.

Notes from Saturday, June 26, 2010 12 oz. bottle from Benz Beverage Depot, Cedar Rapids, IA Ar: A bit of roasted malt and spice, nothing too complex. Ap: Pours a beautiful deep brown with streaks of burnt orange. 1" head dissipates rather quickly, leaving little lace. F: Burnt sugar, dried fruits, a bit of roasted malt dominate the flavor, and maybe a touch of banana. P: Medium-thick body with slightly sticky mouthfeel. O: This is a fine beer, but a bit of a disappointment from Unibroue.

Tasted on draft at Old Oak Tap. Pours cloudy amber with a thin white head that leaves only a thin lace collar. The nose is sweet with that signature Unibroue yeast and some caramel and light hops. The flavor is sweet malt up front with the same yeast flavor and a slightly vinous back. The body is full with fairly light carbonation and a sweet vinous finish. There is definitely some alcohol in this beer.
