COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Had this one again a few nights ago. Strong alcohol taste along with floral, spice combo. Maybe orange or cinnamon in there as well. Decent carbonation as with most Unibroue beers and a light orangish brown head. Finishes well but leaves much of the floral taste behind. Still a great beer though. Never had a bad Unibroue!

This is a great Belgian style ale. Big and matly with nice caramel flavours as it warms. Looks good too. However, it’s probably a little too smooth on the palete - I like a little more of a challenge on the way down with this type of beer. On the other hand it could be said that it is an ’easy drinking’ type of Belgian strong. Having said that the alcohol flavour comes through in spades... I love this beer but it could be better.

Spicy nose with fruits similar to most of the other Unibroue products I’ve tried lately, brownish-orange body, small head receding quickly. Very well balanced spice and fruit flavors, alcohol only slightly noticeable. Good stuff.

Wow... I love unibroue. This is a sweet strong beer that goes down easy, Definately rich in flavour. Completely different than Trois Pistoles but like a better version of Fin Du Monde. [re rate: for sum reason it tasted better at the Beer Fest] Palate isn’t as good.

Another winner from Unibroue, dark orangeish amber color, great tasting with spiciness and fruit, very drinkable despite the alcohol, great beer

Obviously this brewery knows what they’re doing. La Maudite is a great tasting beer that lives up to its evil label - it will bring out the devil in you. Not bitter, not too sweet, apple, slight fig, carmel, are all good flavors to describe this beer. Excellent.

Hoppy, yeasty nose--a bit lighter than I expected. Hazy rich orange color of the embers that burn in my future home in the afterlife...substantial and soft wheat-hued head. Flavor is spicy and sweet...delicate and layered flavors of candied fruits leave trace sweetness on the lips and warm fuzzies in the back of the palate. Hops are also there in support, and boost the spicy warmth with a blanket of mild dryness. Carbonation is suitably low, adding to the superb smooth feel of this most drinkable strong ale.

one of unibroue’s best. awesome spiced ale. it has the yeasty house nose that most uni’s seem to have, and a great honeyish, peppery flavour
