I’m not a big fan of this style (yet), but this wasn’t too bad. Creamy mouthfeel, fruity and not as sour as some of the others.

Mild for a strong, but tasty. Good malt, spicy and aftertaste.

I am begining to like Belgian ales more and more. This particular beer is full of flavor. It incorporates a spiciness with a slightly sweet fruit backdrop. True to style the flavor strengthens as it warms. Its head quickly fades leaving behind a soft lace. Slightly reddish in color with a mysterious haze. A very well made beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep dark amber in color. Aroma is sweet with apple, caramel, raisin and spice. Taste is complex as well. 8% ABV you could have fooled me this is very smooth and drinkable. Good interpretation of a Belgian ale from Unibroue.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Large long-lasting head covering a dark, cloudy amber body. Doesn’t have the aged palate of some of its Belgian counterparts but does have a nice aroma and a slight candi-sugar sweetness. One of the better North American Belgian ales.

Sean and his buddy Nels rave about this stuff, but they are canoeing fiends, too, and I think the label has sucked them in a bit. It does have a beautiful, mysterious fruitiness, like Christmas cake, but I, for one, am not so sure about Christmas cake in my beer ...

Re-rate 9/5/02 Glad i had this again. Incredibly smooth and spicy with some nice fruit and maybe even a bit of bubblegum? flavor. A real winner. Unibroue scores again! A great beer.

Had this one again a few nights ago. Strong alcohol taste along with floral, spice combo. Maybe orange or cinnamon in there as well. Decent carbonation as with most Unibroue beers and a light orangish brown head. Finishes well but leaves much of the floral taste behind. Still a great beer though. Never had a bad Unibroue!
