COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

750 ml bottle. Pours hazy copper color with a 2 finger off white head with decent retention that reduces to a nice cap. Aromas of dark fruits, spices, and Belgian yeast. Taste of fruits, apples, spices, sweet malts, and caramel. A very slight bit of bitterness, and very smooth and drinkable. Medium body and carbonation. A bit of alcohol warming on the finish. Another tasty Belgian style from Unibroue.

Maudite can be described as the perfect beer for any long afternoon. Its warm mellow taste ascents most food. I would call this liquid gold

Bottle @ home, tfs Vaiz. HAzy brown pour, tanned head. Aroma is yeast, sharp alcohol (fusels?) and some fruits. Flavour is old fruit, yeast and a hint of liquorice. Seems past it’s due date. Meh.

Pours a golden amber -- a bit more orange w/ some dark caramel swirls. Appearance is cloudy -- dense bubbles. Aroma has some fall leaves and dried red fruit -- red currants to be exact -- dry raspberries and some citrus, too. Taste is dry red currants, some cedar, and a bit of sugary tartness, too. Quite smooth and lithe on the palate. Well-balanced and worth revisiting.

pour cloudy with good head and a nice caramel brown colour. its huge on the esters with clove and cinnamon and a hint of caramel and banana bread.very expressive. on the palate those ester notes come through again leaving and big belgian beer expression of spices and sweet malts, toffee and bunch of other goodies. great sutff. truly an expressive brew that is of a new world in origin but using an old world recipe.

Spicy and slightly chemical aroma. Sweet and alcoholic flavor. Quite unique spices though and a nice appearance. But I still don’t like it somehow.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a Delirium Tremens glass. Best before 09-23-12 printed on bottle. Appearance: Pours a hazy chocolate brown with a good amount of carbonation bubbles and a 1-2 finger fluffy off-white head. Nice head retention. Very solid lacing throughout. Smell: Belgian yeast with caramel malt and a hint of dried fruits. Taste: Sweet dried fruit with a hint of caramel up front then spices clove in the middle followed by phenols and a mild hoppy bitterness at the finish. Aftertaste is a mix of dried fruit and malt. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with a high amount of carbonation. Drinkability: Very high drinkability. You don’t really notice the alcohol at all so this one could very well sneak up on you. Overall: Excellent beer overall. The flavor is delicious and the mouthfeel is outstanding. This Canadian brew is as good as any Belgian I’ve tried. I would very highly recommend this

Tap: caramel sweet body, fairly dry with a touch of funk. Nice hops, piney twiggy. Body is a bit overcarbonated.
