COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Pours dark brown with a light brown head that dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma is nutty, yeasty, and earthy. Tate is sharp, malty and spicy but not overly so. Good carbonation with a slighty bitter finish. A good belgian strong. I prefer hoppy beers but the selection from unibroue has taught me a lot about this style of beers.

Pours muddy brown with a smooth, modest off-white head. Caramel and cherry aroma along with champagne notes typical of Unibroue varieties. The cherry continues after sipping, followed by some malt, alcohol, citrus and grass. Tart, complex and sour on the tongue. Smooth body, although carbonation is on the high side for a beer of its ABV.

Exceptional belgian-style strong ale. Pours deep mahogany with well-developed brown head and plenty of sediment. Nuts and spices, yeast, dark fruits, raisins, sweet darks desert bread and hints of apples meld into quite a robust admixture of aromas. Flavor is equally commanding with bitter spices well integrated into a sweet, rich malt. Body is smooth and full with medium carbonation. This one is consistently excellent, especially in a Trappist glass.

Pours a brandy brown with a thin brown ringed head. Aroma of spices and fruit. Taste is lightly carbonated with flavors of apples, yeast, sweet malts and light spice. Finish is a nice clingy bitterness

Bottle pour to Trappist glass. Slight;y cloudy medium brown with medium off-white head, Aroma quite nice with fruits and spices. Taste dark and light fruits, spices, Belgian yeast, citrus, sweet malts. Finish just a tad sour and bitter. Palate slightly thick and carbonated. Overall a nice BSA but a notch below the top beers.

Appearance: Cloudy copper with light amber hues. Aroma: Yeast, Red Fruit, Cake Icing, Butterscotch Taste: Definitely the cake frosting/icing but not sweet - in a good way - a little spice and coriander with the dark fruit spreading toward the finish. Palate: All elements have engaged my tongue - great mouthfeel. One of the best I’ve had. Overall: A sipper for me. I love this beer. Over the top in all aspects. Not easy to drink - but pleasant to drink.
