COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Fantastic Belgian beer. Brown With a good head. Malty, spicey & typically yeasty. Malty sweet dry fruit & citrus zest. Nice alcohol buzz.

Pours a murky brown, with a rocky, off-white head, which dissipated slowly. The aroma is a bit sour, like other Belgian Strong Ales I’ve tried. The flavor is fruity, with hints of pear, a bit of alcohol, and just a hint of bitterness in the finish.

750ml bottle split with DarkBeerChick. Pours a deep, clear dark amber body with a ring of off-white head. Aroma is spicy yeast, dark fruits, earthy and some sweet malt. Flavor is a subdued malty sweetness that’s led by raisins, candi sugar, Belgian yeast, hint of cloves, dust and a slight fruityness. Another winner in the Unibroue lineup.

Poured a cloudy amber-orange colour with a few dark particules floating around. The beautiful creamy head stayed a while and left some wavy lacing. It also topped the brew with a nice foamy coating. Aromas were blasting with spices and fruits. The taste was composed of caramel, with the combo and fruits and spices. It started sweet and ended on a tarty bitter finish. The drinkability is top notch for me, even with its high alcohol content. Probably one of my best Begian strong ale.

Hazy brown, beige nice head. Spicy, banana and caramel flavour. Caramel and clove flavour. Really a nice beer.
