COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Bottle, 355ml. Pours a beautiful, murky copper/amber colour with a modest head. Aroma is discreet, some floral notes, but not much else. Body is medium. Taste is of dark malts, light coffee and spices, light bitterness. Good.

Pours a ruddy brown with a thin creamy head. Some attractive lace is left on the glass to enjoy. Smells of fresh bread and grains, very malty and sweet. As it sits a bit, the Belgian spices really start to come out. Other aromas of deep dark fruits like raisins and dates along with candied sugars also come out giving this a rather complex aroma overall. Very nice. Initially the flavor is much like the aroma with wonderful tastes of bread and grains giving way to some rather sweet dates. The spices are tastey and well done coupled with sweet sugars. The finish is long giving yet more complexity with grass, hey, grains, and fruit.

Pours a ruby brown color with a thick off-white foam head. Has an aroma of dark fruit and banana. Has a dubbel taste. Sweet and foamy with a big malt backbone. Notes of banana. Spicy. Full disclosure I do not enjoy beers with a banana taste. But otherwise this is a tasty brew.

12 oz. bottle. Beautiful amber pour with pretty big off white head which sticks around. Mellow aroma of belgian spices, clove, yeast, sticky sweet rice. Mouth feel is pretty highly carbonated, and the spices are softer and have less "bite" than usual for a belgian strong. Spices very dominating in flavor though. Caramel / molasses with a champagne aspect to them malt / hop blend, with a subtle fruitiness on the finish. Pretty, pretty good.

Poured from bottle in Whitehorse, YT. Deep copper colour with a sizeable, off-white head. Aroma of berries and cough syrup with some malt. Lots of malt throughout without being overbearing. Creamy, medium body and a lovely, smooth finish that was not abrupt or bitter. Lots going on in this brew. It is very special. Pity it took me so long to try it. Don’t wait as long as I did.
