Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

this one was just alright for me. Pours out a cloudy brown color with a nice tan head. aroma is sweet and fruity with a touch of yeast. flavor was also fruity, but just had a finish that was taking away from this one. oh well. not a bad brew by any means, but not the best either.

2008-Apr-25 from a 750 ml bottle. Dried fruit aroma with some alcohol burn. Light brown and cloudy with a good head. Astringent heat...not much depth of flavor...some brown sugar. Decent mouthfeel.

Pours a DARK amber with a head of large white bubbles that dissipate to a thin rim of small tight bubbles. Aroma is a funky dusty yeast. The fermentation really gets a lot of different flavors into this one. Dark fruit of course, but there is a spiciness to it as well. Clove and nutmeg. There is a huge alcohol presence to this--- which is what I think the "warmth" that the description speaks of. Nice canadian version of a belgian!

bottle poured into a tulip glass has a dark amber color and steady carbonation producing a two finger off white head that fell quickly. aroma is started off with heavy dark fruited yeast, candy sugar, spice, and light citrus. the yeast in here is really what makes the nose distinct. mouth feel is lighter with heavy carbonation biting at the tongue. the yeasted flavor is just as good, plumb, raisin, figs, candy sugar, spice, and some acidic bite. finish is heavy on the carbonation with spices. the acid level is a little high in here but overall this is fairly solid.

dark orange hue with an enthusiastic head with a latte like consistency; doesn’t leave much in the way of lacing. wheats and lemony citrus notes on the nose. palate is nice, well coating.

Bottle 鶣ml). Poured a very deep ruby with a large off-white head which was mostly lasting. Aroma was of dried mixed fruits with sweet bready malts, some toffee, nuts, cinnamon, blackberries and hints of cloves. Flavor was of sweet bready malts with a pleasant, slightly acidic bitterness; tart blackberries, crane berries, grapes, prunes, cinnamon and hints of toffee. Medium to full bodied with lively carbonation, dry/creamy mouthfeel and a good finish.

Interesting green tinged carmel color. Light baby food banana and some other fruit aroma. Fairly tense flavor, sharp, of allspice like the spice in pumpkin pie, even a little sweet. A bit of bite in the back of the throat. Quite a bit of fiz as well. Nice to have tried, but don’t need another.
