COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Bottle. Pretty red-brown pour with an off white head. Lots of cinnamon and cloves in the aroma combined with some plums and malt. Pretty high carbonation, prickly mouthfeel that is a bit clear for the strong alcohol presence. Taste is very sweet/fruity and malty.

Been meaning to try this one for a good long while. On tap at Naked City. Pours a brownish red with a medium, dense head. Mostly malts on the nose (and in the flavor, for that matter) - dark fruits, some baking spices (cloves), not much to balance it out. There’s a note in here that reminds me of Dr. Pepper. Slightly dilute. It has a really good flavor, and would pair well with foods, but on its own is a bit weak. Not one of the better ones from the brewery.

From a bottle poured dark brown with a fair amount of head. Nice strong malty flavor with a lingering sicy finish.

Bottle. Pours a light brown with more of that famous Unibroue fluffy white head. Initial aroma is all apple cider vinegar, on the sweet side, to be fair. Taste is sweet, with citrus, apples, and spice. It’s fine. Full body, without being overwhelming. Better balance than La Fin du Monde. A nice strong ale.

Pours an amber color with a medium fluffy white head which leaves some rainy lacing. Aroma is rich malts, green apple, dark fruit, and some spice. Taste is rich malts, apple, plum, raisin, and some lemon zest. A well balanced and easy-drinking Belgian.

12oz bottle from total wine in norfolk. pours cloudy, dark amber with a thick, bubbly, light tan head. aroma is very nice with tart fruit notes of plum, green apple, and lemon zest with hints of raisins, belgian spice, cedar wood, and caramel malts. flavor is very good as well with tart cherry and red grapes up front balanced by dry, toasted malts, clove, and brown banana with notes of grass and spice on the finish. mouthfeel is medium bodied and brightly carbonated without a hint of alcohol. overall, a very nice belgian strong.

02-OKT-2009, bottle @home. Brownish a bit dull colour with nice off-white head. Nice malty aroma with charamel, wood, and citrus mostly in the form of oranges. Taste is malty as well, with a bit dusty woody flavours. Long citrus aftertaste. It goes a bit watery in the middle, and I would have liked a little more creaminess. Nice carbonation, but is it disappearing a bit too fast? My second beer from Unibroue, and again a lovely beer. Is it true they do not brew any more? If so what a pitty.

Bottle. Pours deep amber with a thick, frothy, beige head. Aroma of raisins, roasted malt, spice, and hints of apple. Full body, with a heavy, bold finish. Another outstanding Belgian Strong from Unibroue. Party on Wayne! Party on Garth!
