COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

1998 Vintage@Kulminator: murky, rusty brown, with a small white head & grainy black sediment @ bottom of the bottle, taste sweet with molasses, brown sugar, lots of Unibroue yeast, overripe dark fruits, slightly degraded, watery vintage taste, dry, clear presence of spices, kind of odd but very Unibroue & probably a bit over the hill

750ml bottle from Pinch poured into my Chimay Trappist glass. Pours a clear dark amber with about 1 finger of white head. Aroma of plum, candied sugar and dark fermented fruit. Taste is very lightly sour and light sweet. Taste of candied sugar and dark fruits. Full bodied with a thick and creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a long sweet finish. Overall, very good. I will absolutely drink this again, especially because it was only 6 bucks for a 750ml bottle.

Bottle from The Beer Store (341ml). Pours dark orange-copper almost opaque with a thin white head. Aroma of ripe fruits, prunes, apricots. doughy unibroue style yeast, subtle nose of alcohol. Flavour is sweet with touch of alcohol and sweetness combined with caramel malt. A rather dry taste. Lots of ripe fruit flavour and heavy on the malt. Minimal bitterness and hops. medium-full body with lively carbonation. Well balanced, interesting and enjoyable. I keep coming back to this beer.

Pours a hazy rusty brown with a sudsy thick head. Smells sweet with scents of yeast, nutmeg and a touch of vanilla with ginger. Tastes smooth, yeasty and sweet. Hints of cinnamon and sweet malts with a touch of hops provide a spicy and dry finish with warm sensations from the generous ABV. Pairs great with spicy red pasta and is a smooth drinker by itself.

Tasted from large bottle into tulip glass. Poured a beautiful, hazy deep copper color with fluffy off-white head, somewhat persistent, some lace. Aromas of sweet bread, apricot, some distant earthy hops, pepper, clove, and alcohol. Rich malt sweetness with complimentary hops bitterness, complex flavors: whole-wheat bread, toast, biscuits, roasted nuts, honey, caramelized brown sugar, a little molasses and stone fruit. Light-medium body with mellow mouthfeel. Lasting, unique bittersweet aftertaste which finishes dry. Pleasant warmth, but you’d never know this was 8% alcohol by volume. Awesome bottle fermentation effervescence. Refreshing, drinkable and delicious. This is about as perfect a beer I’ve ever had.

maledictum (498) - Granada, SPAIN - OCT 10, 2011
Amber-brownish colour, misty; frothy head, that reduces quickly. Warm aroma, malty, cookies, alcohol. Good body, powerful, a lot malty, alcoholic, sweet in the front, more balanced then; nuts. Ordinary palate, with sweet notes, lacking some hop character and bitterness.

Hazy amber colour with a medium pale head. Aroma is yeast, oak. Creamy mouthfeel, medium carbonation, subtle sourness and a slightly dry finish. Taste is yeast, apples, brown sugar and a hint of banana.
