Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

I’m new to the whole describing exactly what flavors are in the beer so bare withe me in this. The reason that I bought this beer was because of the cool picture that was on the label. It has a light flavor not to be confused with little flavor. It leaves a slick feeling to your mouth but not a bad feeling to it. Slight sweet scent, slightly bitter, nice after taste, nice carbonation that plays with the palate. I like this beer also has a slight spice taste to it.

Pours an amber orange brown, thick frothy creamy head. Heavily carbonated/very bubbly. Aroma of the signature Unibroue yeast, Sour hearty grains and bread. Earthy damp hay. Sweet and tangy flavor. Apple cider with a bitter slightly bitter hop finish. I also get some hearty whole wheat flavor in the after taste. Palate is smooth a little thick but not too thick and slightly complex. Tasty indeed.

12oz bottle. Bottled in June 07, consumed in Feb 08. This has been one of my favourite beers for as long as I’ve liked good beer, and should have been rated long, long ago. Pours a murky brown. Has a wonderfully yeasty and wheaty aroma. The initial taste is strong, yeasty with a touch of sweetness. It goes down the throat beautifully, with a full wheaty aftertase. I’ve always felt this beer to be a weizenbock. I really should do a blind taste test with this one and Aventinus and pick my favourite..

Deep bronze clouded hue with a large foamy of white head. Strong orange and spicey nose. Malty taste with dry slightly bitter finish. Expected a stronger flavour although it is very pleasant indeed and not at all over powering bearing in mind the alcohol content.

Unibroue does a superb job of its "mass consumption" Belgian styles. They don’t water it down and somehow keep the price fairly reasonable. This is a great Belgian-style ale, one of the best this side of the waters.
