COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Bottle. Another solid beer. The abv just adds to the flavor and finish with a slight warming. Taste is otherwise distinct and complex . NIce beer.

Probably the best beer I’ve ever had. Had to leave a little wiggle room in case I’m wrong. I will definitely be seeking out other Unibroue offerings.

Bottle. 355 mL. Pours an opaque-orange-brown color with a light off-white head. Has all the quintessential characteristics of a Belgian tripel/dubbel. A combination of fig and raisin with creamy and bread like undertones. Medium to heavily bodied. Nice bitter edge. Very enjoyable.

Lovely large bottle and the usual attractive Unibroue label. This poured with a dark red colour and a lively, large foamy head that left some nice lacing. Aroma was fruity with a hint of yeast. Taste was simply delicious, being fruity and smooth with the high ABV lurking in the background.

On tap at Ray’s into tulip. Murky orange brown pour with a quickly deflating off-white head. A slight funkiness in the aroma and even more slight in the flavor, spicy clove, nutmeg, allspice. Interesting because it wasn’t like other belgian strongs I’ve had but not outstanding in my opinion.

Bottle. Pours reddish amber with a medium beige head. Beautiful spicy aroma and flavour of bread loaf, nutmeg, spice, fruit and toffee. Smooth and warming mouthfeel. A delicate beer, it’s hard to flaw. A great interpretation of a classic style.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazy reddish-brown with a small, foamy, white head. Boozy fruit, cherries, cinnamon, clove, and mace make up the nose. High carbonation with a light mouthfeel. It has a nice dryness to it. Clove, mace, slight dustiness, an herbal note, oak, and light stone fruit make up the palate. A long, spicy finish. A very interesting brew! You would think all of the spice notes would ruin the beer, but this one pulls it off. A wee bit on the spiced side for me, but still a very good brew.
