COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Aroma of yeast, malt and dark fruit. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a frothy one-finger khaki head. Flavor is lots of dark fruit, prunes, raisins, sweet malt, yeast, and some alcohol that is more noticeable in the finish. Finish is also somewhat bitter.

Pours a deep opaque mahogany color with an airy light-tan head that leaves wisps of lace before rescinding into an amorphous film. Aroma is yeasty and doughy with tons of ester notes including banana, plum, and raisin. Flavor is raisiny and bready with a little cinnamon and pepper. Some alcohol is present but not too much. Finish is drying and slightly bitter. Body has a nice heft to it.

Pours an absolutely beautiful brown color with nice carbonation (poured into a Unibroue sniffer/tulip style glass). Nice contrasting off white head. The aroma of fruits, grains, malts, and spices... absolutely amazing! The taste is even better! The taste is of rich malts, carmel, fruit (plum?), and spices. Wonderful mouthfeel. Excellent, Excellent brew!

Pours a nice chestnut color with a sustained white head; slowly dissipates to a thin white film of foam. Aroma is full of chestnuts, christmas spices, and belgian yeastiness. Taste is very prickly (hihgly carbonated), lots of plum/fig tastes with Belgian yeast character. Quite tasty, but not as refreshing as a number of their other offerings. Would have been better paired with food.

Fruity, malty sweet aroma. Deep-reddish brown color with thick, off-white, creamy, lingering head. Flavored heavy sweet, light bitterness, medium sourness. Candy, caramel, smooth into spice and pepper.

a well crafted beer much in line with their other styles. A lot of flavor and I would call this strong on the ABV. Not my style but a very good brew.

Enjoyed via 12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Nose of dark fruits, but also some spices and perhaps a bit of banana. Notes of malt sweetness, raisons, and prunes come across on the palate, accentuated by a spritzy carbonation that allows the aromas and tastes to greet the palate with force. Finish is dry, but with just a bit of lingering sweetness. In the end, I would probably put this one somewhere between a strong dubbel and a lighter Belgian strong dark. In any case, a must-try.

Bottle 33. Quite sweet beer in Belgian style, aroma well balanced as the we donnot taste so much the alcool. Deep amber colour with a very nice head and a medium carbonation. Citrus smell is present (from yest ?) less malt flavour. Good abey beer.
