COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

341ml bottle in trappist glass. Pours amber-brown with medium fizzy head. Fruity aroma. Yeast as well. Quite carbonated on the palate. Great mouthfeel. Yeasty aroma. Alcohol is quite discrete for the amount. Quite dry on the finish. A bit fruity also. Tiny bit acidic on the finish. Maybe a tiny bit metallic as well. A bit cherry-ish also. Strong yeast taste that i don’t enjoy with the Trois-Pistole but that i enjoy with this one. Great beer ! Rating #36

Hazy amber towards brown look with a baige head. Very nice fruity yeast aroma with notes of toffee and alchohol. Flavor is complex, again with soft fruity notes, coriander spices and a warm alchohol. Great beer.

Bottle from BevMo. Nice Belgian strong ale. Deep reddish-brown appearance with a lasting off-white head. Aroma is yeasty with candi sugar, sweet malt, and dark fruits. Flavor is more of the same, very intense and complex. Well-spiced. Smooth, full mouthfeel and a long finish.

Brown/red pour with excessive foamy head. Yeasty nose with flavors of grape, citrus, spices. Sudsy, extremely warming ABV. I have no doubt this is a really good beer - yeasty/wheaty Belgian style is just not my thing.

A- Pours a clear dark red with brown tints, off-white medium-sized head with fairly watery lacing that doesn’t stick very much S- Sweet belgian candy dominates, dark fruits and some yeasty/bread malts on board, subtle hints of cinnamon, pepper, and banana on board as well T- Initial taste is of malted candy and dark fruits which quickly transitions to a complex spice profile that sticks around in the prolonged finish M- Medium-bodied ale with a slightly over-carboned feel, watery texture for a strong ale D- Edgy carbonation and 8%abv make puts this in the ’moderately’ drinkable range, but the watery texture really kills this beer for me

Mahogany pour no head, but his is on tap. Can’t get much aroma in here. Tate is more pike the Belgian golden ales I have had, such as pranqster. Good brew l, I just expected more body from a Belgium dark.
