COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

This fine beer is the ambrosia of the gods themselves - a fine brown-amber, thick creamy tan foam, aroma of malts, spices, and figs, and a heavenly flavor of caramel, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and other divine spices previously untasted by mere humans. But it exacts a heavy price for mortal men who would imbibe it. As told by legends passed down from the ancient paleo-indians who predated even the Clovis culture in southern Canada, he who drinks of this beer damns himself to forever accompany the Great Raven on his eternal travels as he flies his canoe by night over the northern lands, collecting souls. A great beer and a great legen--- egads, what is that clattering? Who is on my porch? Is-- O gods have mercy! It is the foul Raven himself, come for me! AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH--

Refrigerated bottle poured into a trappist glass. Medium brown with large cremson highlights and small beige head. Well carbonated, fine bubble lacing, and medium body. Taste is complex darker fruit, molasses, and alchol is pretty well covered. Reminds me of a lesser version of gulden draak.

Tasted at Beerbistro, Toronto on 9 July 2011. Reddish brown color, foamy big of-white head, initial taste of cough syrup flavor! with coffee-like finish, mild carbonation. Probably too much sugar content.

Part of a 750 ml bottle, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. 20JL11.

App.: Clear deep amber with a large light tan foam. Aroma: Lots of rich, sweet, crunchy, fruity malt, classic Unibroue yeast, light minty herbals, some bright fruits, and some darker dried fruits, earthy, lemony coriander. Palate: Medium+ body, sparse effervescence, slick. Flav.: Much like the nose, plenty of fruit, sweet, inviting malts, yeast, slight minty herbals, earthy, lemony coriander, nice; sweet with limited bitterness and a pleasantly fruity, boozy finish.
