COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Has a nice reddish brown pour with a whiteish foamy head. Malty, caramel and molasses round out the aroma. Taste is similar. No alcohol present in the taste. Slightly dry mouthfeel.

nice brown to red color. It pours fairly thin with a nice white head. The tart flavor dissipates to a slight malty finish

341ml bottle. Cloudy rusted orange pour with a minimal tan head after a vigorous pour. Very little lace. The nose has a very brandy-like feel with some nuts and caramel. A lot lighter on the palate than expected from the nose. The brandy feel is gone but the caramel and nuts stick around with a stewed fruit sort of feel. Finishes a little warm but that’s the only real trace of the alcohol. Solid stuff.

A very complex beer, a taste that is very unique and stands out among alot of different beers. Anytime I go to Quebec I look for this beer, for I feel it is the best beer of the Unibroue series.

500ml bottle. Mahogany colour. Sweet and sour, a malt beer with a complex flavour. Heavy yeast. Unrelated to the beer itself, I love the art depicting Quebec folklore. Adds a really unique touch and grounds the beer in its origin.

poured from bottle into a Maudite glass - aroma of yeast & alcohol & caramel; slightly hazy orange color, frothy white head; taste is complex - medium-sweet, a little sour/bitter, with a strong alcoholic finish; full-bodied & creamy. no flaws at all.

Aroma: Very yeasty, slightly sour, strong presence of alcohol. Appearance: Dark brown, hazy, with a medium off-white head Taste: Roasted malt, nice balance of medium sweet and sour flavors, relatively low bitterness. Palate: Medium body, lively carbonated, with a astringent finish. Overall: Suprisingly easy to drink considering the style. The sour flavors dominate and are a great change of pace. Would compliment savory dishes very well.
