COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Sweet, spicy aroma with bready malts, candi sugar, honey, red fruits, prunes, figs, smooth herbal hops, and spicy yeast notes. Spicy taste that grows sweeter and more balanced as you work on the bottle. Effervescent palate. Great beer.

From a 355ml bottle on 5/2/2015. Pours a goden brown with a medium head. The nose is sweet, fruity, dusty and spicy. In the mouth, it’s very Belgian - the yeast is prominent, with sticky fruit and spices dominating. Not overly sweet, but quite rich with just a hint of bitterness. The palate is a touch creamy and the carbonation soft. A decent enough big Belgian.

Pours from bottle with a light Lacey head, dark in colour. Strong banana and Belgium wheat aroma that continues through the taste.

Bomber into a tulip. Pours a rich orange/brown, with a large beige head that persists, leaving good lacing. Nose is stone fruit and caramel, and the taste follows the nose. Wonderfully rich and complex when warmed to the proper temperature. Outstanding.

I poured it from the bottle into a glass. It pours an orange and brown color with a great off-white head and lacing. The aroma is banana, clove, Belgian yeast, and other spice. The taste is the same. The banana lingers. As it warms, you get some alcohol and a faint hint of bubblegum. There is nice carbonation. It fades into a nice smoothness. This is a fairly standard but nicely done Belgian.

12 oz. bottle. Dark reddish-brown color. Creamy head. Dark fruit, spice, and yeast aroma. Sweet-smelling. Similar taste with a bit of malt, bread, caramel and brown sugar as well. Flavor has some sweetness, but on a more subtle level than in the aroma. A good amount of carbonation. Nice balance.

Pours deep brown with a thick white head. Nose is fruity and sweet. Armas are caramel, fruits, spices, brown sugar. Lively carbonation, full body. Long sweet and spicy finish. Great Canadian Belgian-styled ale!

Pours a dark brown (with a bit of red) and a large, dense, light tan head. Tastes of Belgium yeast, some malt in the back, and faint pear. A bit of spice mixed in. Even with the carbonation, it feels smooth drinking. Flavor lasts long after you swallow. I haven’t had this beer in a while, and forgot how good it was. Nothing overly unique in taste but a solid Belgium style beer. Might be one of my favorite non-Belgium Belgium style beers.

Rated from old notes. A French-Canadian Ale done in the Belgian style. Yeasty, well carbonated, starts sour but settles on the palate and an increased sweetness takes over. Good beer. Great label.

From notes (10/23/15). Beautiful beer with a warm, red-brown color and a big white head. The flavor is Belgian yeast and fruit pudding, and it’s surprisingly well balanced, complex, and smooth.

0.341 bottle. Hazy, light brown color and a huge, tanned head leaving no lacing. Aroma of spices, malts, some citric notes, caramel, alcohol, and hints of brown sugar. Taste is sweet, malty, spicy, sugary, caramel comes through again. Medium body, delicately creamy texture, and a soft carbonation. Finish is long and spicy too, quite usual for the style although perhaps a tad too watery. Overall not a bad beer but nothing out of the ordinary. It is not uncommon to find a much better Belgian-style beer.
