COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Bottle. A light brown beer with a big white head. Wonderful aroma of apples, raisins, yeast... quite fruity. A little too carbonated and a little light in body. There's a fruity taste (apples) and a little sweetness mixed with a hint of spice before you get the alcohol presence. Finishes dry. A very good beer, but I wish it has a little more body to it.

Fantastic beer on all accounts: l discover new flavors and smells each time I open a bottle. Other raters have flushed out all the necessary details about the beer’s yeasty, slightly sweet, yet complex character. Delightful appearance too.

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2006 Poured a dark golden color, some dark sediment in the glass, with a large off white head that quickly diminished and left slight lacing. Fruit and yeast mixes with a sweet aroma. The taste was sweet and citrusy, but not as in a citrus hop taste. Goes down very smooth, you can’t tell this is 8%.

Muddy brown with medium head. Aroma of cinnamon and allspice. Full bodied, tastes of brown sugar and malt. A keeper.

12oz. Bottle: Very sweet aroma. Smells of ripe dark fruits, and a little cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. Poured copper/amber in color with a big off-white head that lasted throughout. Excellent lacing. Cloudy. Lots of floating particles. Very sparkling. Flavor is moderately sweet but not bitter or sour. Tastes of plum, prune, clove, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Full body. Fizzy carbonation. Dry, alcohol finish.

900 beers and no end in sight. This beer is a clear dark orange color with mild effervescence and a very thick bone white head. Quick lacing. The aroma is fruit (banana mostly), spice, yeast and some hops. Medium-bodied and somewhat complex with a satisfying array of flavors like clove and other spices, fruit, malt and a touch of alcohol. The finish is rather dry and zesty. The alcohol definitely sneaks up on you by the end of the bottle too. Very enjoyable.
