COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

A little lighter tasting than it looks. It avoids the overwhelming heavy malty sweetness in that is in other Belgian Ales.

This reddish-brown ale poured with no head, eliciting a sharp fruity aroma. When served at refrigerator temperature, there is a strong sweet cherry flavor with a cloying medicinal finish. At room temperature the spices become much more apparent. When warmed even more, the spices blend with the fruit flavor to produce a more mellow taste. But it’s pretty good at any temperature.

Muddy looking Belgian style beer, with a typical strong Belgian beer aroma. Slightly sweet flavour with an alcohol kick. Overall a reasonable beer.

Appearance: Pours a clear, humble, brown body with a full, pillowy, light beige head. Smell: Toasted wheat malt aroma with a distinct waft of alcohol and notes of lemon zest, bananas, dark brown sugar and various spices. Taste: Toasted wheat maltiness with a good dose of cinnamon, clove spiciness and a dose of brown sugar sweetness. Orange and lemon peel. Dried banana chips. Sourish yeast character. Underlying hint of alcohol always present. Some bitterness on the drying finish. Grows more clovey as you go. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Moderately carbonated. Soft mouthfeel. Drinkability: Paired rather well with the movie Eraser.

Bottle, 33 cl. Very beautiful hazy reddish amber colour, with small but stable off-white head. Roasted malt aroma, with slightly toffeish notes, earthy and spicy notes may be found as well, along some yeast. Medium bodied, a bit spritzy CO2 feeling. Well balanced, actually rather dry, in sharp contrast to previous sticky Unibrous I’ve head. A good shot at the belgian style, but far from the best original ones.
