COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Dark brown colored, strongly cloudy appearance. Caramel and some spices in aroma, alcohol and licorice also here. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is also dominated by licorice, mild alcohol with some spices here. Sweet sugary caramel tone also here. Aftertaste lasts with warming alcohol.

UPDATED: FEB 26, 2010 Pours a murky brownish orange with a small tan head that fizzles down nicely. Aromas of yeast, dark fruits, raw cane sugar, caramel malt. Taste is bubbly up front then subsides for a Grand Marnier-like kick with some warming alcohol at the end but the 8% is nicely hidden. Creamy mouthfeel. Dry and spicy aftertaste. Awesome. 4

Re-rate 9.2.09: 750 mL. Beautiful in the glass: a cloudy raspberry color. Big tan head with excellent retention. Aroma is cherry cola, lots of mustiness, earthiness, dirt. Taste is a bit chemical, yeasty. Dry on the palate. 8% is well hidden. Not as spectacular as I remember. 3.6

medium copper with dark orange fringes, a light tan head, good retention and lacing, body isn’t doing it for me... very Belgian aroma, Belgian yeast, alcohol, a little sweetness on the front, ok... the taste is super super boring, light flavor overall, belgian yeast, candy sugar, alcohol... pass on this

I love the appearance of this beer, a nice, appealing orange-red color with an abundant head. Inviting aroma of spices (pepper I guess) and orange. Peppery and fruity (orange) flavor. Smooth mouthfeel.

Dark brown. Aroma of malt. Flavors of malt, some dried fruit. Warming; the high abv is not noticeable in the taste, but is definitely noticeable the next morning.

An amber/brown pour with alot of head that goes quickly to a light lacing. An aroma of spice and clove. A light sweet maltiness with just a shade of bitter and a hint of alcohol in the ending. Just a tad to fizzy for my taste. An interesting beer I would like to have on tap?
