COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

sampled on tap, i’ve had this a few times prior to this sample and have always been indifferent about this beer. very sweet malty with noticible alcohol. flavor isn’t really interesting either, dark fruits, rum, bread, yeasty. a little too boozy for only 8%.

On tap @ Coles. Buffalo NY. Served in a Unibroue glass. Orange brown in color with fruity & spice flavors. Great beer that seems to get me in trouble every time I drink it. Its 11am the morning after & I am typing this at home & should of been @ work 2 hours ago

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2009 Dark pour. Belgian aroma with a weightier feel. Dry mouthfeel, little aftertaste. Flavor up front is bitter. No sweetness which I expected. Re-rate 8/26/09. Pours heavy red with a murky appearance. Smell has a nice round of spice with a quick punch of heavy flavors. Mouthfeel boasts an immediate tingle which is cheerfully provided by the ABV. Taste is better than I remembered however I was but a tot when I tried it the first time. Slight improvement.

The first time I had this beer was 5 years ago. The bottle was a birthday gift from my ex.father.in.law. He siad he thought it was a cool label. I do not think he knew what the meaningof the name was. Pours a slightly hazy reddish brown. White foamy head. Aroma of belgian yeast, figs, dates, rich malt. Very complex scent. Flavor is a strong bodied malt. Lots of dark dried fruits. More complex flavors than in the aroma. Wow. Overall this bottle reminds me of a heavy doppelbock made with a belgian yeast. Happiness in a warm glass. I could have a tap of this in the house and never leave again.

Bottle from BevMo. Nice Belgian strong ale. Deep reddish-brown appearance with a lasting off-white head. Aroma is yeasty with candi sugar, sweet malt, and dark fruits. Flavor is more of the same, very intense and complex. Well-spiced. Smooth, full mouthfeel and a long finish.

Shared this one w/ SkyCop32. Pours a darkish red/brown. Aromas of spice, coriander, yeast, and alcohol. Flavor has an alcohol taste to it, mixed with a nice smokey dark fruit. Also has strong hints of spice and orange.

Sweet, yeasty aroma with a mild sourness of bread dough. Cloudy amber color with a thick ivory head. First taste is big and yeasty with a dank sourness, Then the sharp tartness kicks in, followed with an alcohol kick. Mildy effervescent mouthfeel but no doubt this is strong. Well balanced that’s just a tad sour.
