COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

UPDATED: NOV 26, 2007 Re-Rate -- Aged 2 years takes on very dry crisp characteristics and muted Unibroue yeast flavors. 8/5/9/4/17 = 4.3. Pours a deep amber into a tulip. Frothy head with fine bubbles. Dough, bread and hay aromas. Cherry flavors and full bodied. Abrupt finish. 7/5/8/4/16 = 4

UPDATED: AUG 16, 2010 355ml bottle. Best before 09/10/05, enjoyed on 11/19/05 (Whoops, I guess this is past its prime!) Pours cloudy amber with lots of yeasty particles and a thick white head that fades to a cover. Nice lacing. The aroma is bananas, green grape juice and yeasty spiciness. The flavor is a beautiful blend of sweet fruits: green grapes, apple, candi sugar and a touch of orange at the end. The finish is long with a nice tongue tingle. The mouthfeel is very champagnelike and elegant. I must say this brew has aged like a champ.

Pours a brown with an orange hue. Aroma has thick, buttery, toffee malt, along with the flavor. Pleasant beer with subtle fruityness, dates, toffeeish. The flavor is surprisingly light, with a fluffy mouthfeel but it’s still somewhat full. Has a later cinnamon toast aspect, a slight alcohol flavor later on, with a smooth warming finish.

750ml bottle from bevmo mission valley. Brew pours a hazy, deep rusted amber color with a 2 finger beige head. Tons of malt and spice on the nose, with the flavor being much of the same , medium/full bodied beer.

good sweet spiced aroma. amber colored with chunks of yeast floating around from bottle refermentation. alcohol is masked well with the strong malts and spices. good beer but nothing stands out compared to other belgian strong ales ive had, but its true to style.

330 ml bottle. Amber body with a nice, dense off-white head. Quite strong aroma, caramel, candy sugar, dry fruit and some alcohol. Flavor is sweet, slightly roasted caramel, malt, brown sugar, spices and some alcohol. Nice flavor, maybe a bit to sweet for me.

750ml from Total Wine, Durham. Absolutely massive pour, with a full 80% of the glass foaming up initially. Nice looking mahogany body with that lasting head/retention. While this isn’t the top of Unibroue’s offerings, I do appreciate the fact that they stretch a bit here in offering something that’s a bit more piquant and fruity than some of their other brews. Slightly bitter at the start but with warming citrus and darker fruits giving a lasting finish. This is quite nice.

Lightly off white head sits forever on top of a red-brown ruby body. Dark fruit aroma, some malt and a light alcohol and yeast spice. Taste is a smooth raisin, fig, plum fruitiness, sweet malt base, hidden alcohol.
