COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

UPDATED: SEP 16, 2003 A powerful spicy fruity ale with a peachy alcohol aroma. I had a 12oz bottle and can't wait to try a bigger one. 12-29-01: I'm sipping a 25.4 oz and I don't remember rating the 12oz bottle of this. After checking the bottle pile, yes I had it before. I'm knocking the palate to a 5. Great beer, way to keep them Belgians working! Like Chimay, but more offerings at half the price.

This is a great beer. It has complex fruity-spiciness. Balanced beer, the alcohol presence is there, but not too strong. Great on draft or in the bottle.

Nice appearance, medium brown with a pretty, lasting, creamy head, a bit of haze. Aroma was unremarkable, just some Belgian yeast and sweetness. The flavor was also unremarkable. Nice, balanced, vaguely Belgian in nature, but nothing really jumped out beyond a house yeast flavor. Although I like the Unibroue yeast (reminds me of the DT's yeast), it isn't enough of a flavor to base a beer around. Well made, but sort of boring.

33 cl Bottle. Brown to orange in colour, very good aroma, but nothing speciel in flavor. Too much alkoholic in aftertaste.

Pour is a nubilous amber to copper color, the head behemothic in size and creamy in its consistency, the lace thick glutinous sheets that seal themselves to the glass. Aroma of ripe plums, sweet with hints of yeast and malt, quite pleasant to senses. Start is sweet, the top middling in mouth feel, the finish tart, the carbonation biting and the hops masterful in their spicy presence, dry somewhat alcohol bitter aftertaste lingers on. It is hard for me to say if I like La Fin Du Monde or Maudite better, guess it’s a tie and I will have to sample a few dozen more times to break that tie? Oh what about Trois Pistoles? A three way tie what a shame.

Beautiful peach amber with a head that poured too thick. Lovely woody aroma, and while the flavor has this woody/piny characteristic as well, it has a sugary residue (piny/syrupy) infused within it to the point of being cloying.

re-rate 4/30/02. Had to lower the score. I really have a little trouble with the taste of the yeast. The color is nice. Medium dark reddish brown and cloudy. The head is a bit foamy and dissapates quickly. It has a mild pleasant smell. The flavor lacks some of the complexity that I would expect from a Belgian style brew, but the more I drank, the more I liked it. The alcohol only leaves the slightest footprint on the tongue -- just enough to let you know it’s there. Overall, a good beer.

Orange-ruby colour with a creamy white head. Aroma of the ubiquitous Unibroue yeast with strong spice and fruit notes. Sweet, complex flavour with some hints of apple, nutmeg, raisin and peach. Finish is smooth and moderately dry. A Canadian classic.
