COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

2004 Bomber. Mellow with some soft spices in the background. The bottle aging has really toned down this beer.

UPDATED: JUN 5, 2006 Bottle best before 3-25-07. Dirty muddy brown with 1 finger off white head. Huge dark fruit aroma, (prune/fig), hints of banana, very yeasty with faint alcohol in the background. Flavor again very yeasty with tons of fruit, mostly prune and banana, faint spice towards the finish. Great smooth/oily mouthfeel. Probably the smoothest Unibroue I’ve had, maybe the age has mellowed the carbonation a bit. Well done.

(Bottle) Pours a dark amber color with very little head. Aroma of yeast, toffee, and light biscuit. Exceptionally malty body, with caramel and some fruit (plum perhaps). Light spice, especially towards the aftertaste. Good palate. Low carbonation makes the mouthfeel smooth, and almost a little syrupy. Another enjoyable product from Unibroue.

Very good, nice alcohol content that wasn't noticeable. Spicey, dark ruby coloration, a real good beer.

Bottle. Rating #666. Body is hazy and about the color brown of a hazelnut. Obnoxiously large Unibroue head that means you have to wait forever to get more than three sips in your glass. (I hate that and always take off one appearance point for it.) Aromas are earthy/nutty with some yeast, citrus and alcohol peeking through the cracks. Flavor is interesting. Classic Unibroue thin mouthfeel, but flavor goes beyond the thin alcohol burn that I have found in several of their offerings. I like the candi sugar/fig dark malt presence and how it balances out the earthy/yeasty flavors. A little bit of an alcoholic warmth, but nothing severe.

UPDATED: APR 14, 2008 Bottle - Deep red colort, one finger pink head. Aroma: Blackcurrant and flaxseed, some tomato there too and dare I say ginger too? Flavour: Big mouthfeel, malt & hop, shoe polish (not in a bad way) and sourness, wood and pine there too, very nice!

Amber with a big off white head. Aroma is yeasty, fruity esters, some tart citrus. Taste is dark fruit, with some malty sweetness and yeasty.
