COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Une exellante bière forte avec une bonne mélange de saveur d’épice et de caramel. Pour dégustation seulement.

2004 Bottle. Hazy dark amber with a huge head on the first pour, but smaller after that. Head dissapated quickly and left no lacing to speak of. Aromas were mostly citrus with some caramel and a touch of darker fruits. Flavors were very dry currant with the alcohol masked well. A little too dry for my taste, but still drinkable.

Bottle poured a hazy, copper-brown body with immense effervescence yet virtually no head. Interesting. A lot of alcohol up front in the nose: Brandy, with flowers, bread dough, banana and pear. Lightly sweet to begin with a sourdough yeastiness emerging, but an overall flat flavor. Medium-bodied and honey smooth.

bottle cloudy light brown, with a nice thick cratered head. aroma is interesting and hard to put my finger on. earthy pear aroma is the best i can come up with. strong alcohol taste is the first thing i notice, spicy is the next. malty buttered biscuit taste. finish is the best part of this. a little bitter a little malt and some odd alcohol taste that mixes together well.

UPDATED: NOV 22, 2003 In Unibroue terms, Trios Pistoles meets Don de Dieu. Reminded me very much of a Belgian Strong Ale-Weissber combo of some sort. Pretty apricot color with a large, rapidly fading head. Nose is rich, lots of citrus, cola, and nutmeg. Flavors of butterscotch, cream, lemon, and maybe something like peanut butter? Very fizzy brew, makes the tongue tingle. Very enjoyable.

Interesting brew. Pours a cloudy caramel coloured body, with a thin beige head that just barely lurks around the edge of the glass. Aromas are fruity. Pear and apple come to mind. Also a slight spice aromas is present. Very appealing. Taste is of pears, and slightly spicy. Full bodied and smooth. A pleasure to drink. Unibroue certainly makes a great beer.

From a 750ml bottle. Poured a rich coppery-brown color. Rather yeasty nose and flavor, somewhat sour orange undertones. Rather bubbly (which I like), almost no alcohol taste (impressive for an 8%). Clean, yeastish finish. Overall, a damn good beer. Not sure if I’d seek it out, but still damn good.

75 cl bottle, from Ølkonsortiet in Aalborg.. Brown color, big off-white head. Malt, caramel, dark fruit and a bit citric. Balanced, but not very complex.
