COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Spice, sweet apple aroma. Not much going on in the flavor department. I like the compexity of strong ales and this seemed to just miss it. Citrus start with very present alcohol burn, malts in the middle were sugary and sweet. the taste just sort of stopped there

Clear copper color with a white ring of a head. Aroma of molasses, malts and root beer. Complex flavor dominated by molasses with hints of fruits, spices, and malts. Another beer that warms the insides on a cold night.

Pours a red caramel color with no head at all. Tastes sweet with low hop character and fruity notes. Decent, nothing really special.

Orangey-Brown color with creamy head. Some of the other unibroue beers are too carbonated causing them to taste like champagne, but not the Maudite. A nice maltiness to it with a very smooth finish.

Poured a hazy golden orange with a thin but large belgian head. Nice retention throughout the entire session. Lacing was very inconsistant and conflicting. Some swallows it would stick wonderfully and some it would slip back into the beer. Nice aroma on this brew. The nose was hit with spicy peppers, clove, malts, raisins, herbs and yeast. A pleasure to inhale. Nice flavor as well. Very smooth and well balanced especially for being 8%. Nice flavors of lemon, orange, clove, yeast, coriander and peppers. Alcohol was very very well hidden and the warming effect in the mouth led to an excellent mouthfeel. The initial taste was excellent, the mid-palate was great but then on the finish this beer seemed to die on me, keeping it from a perfect 5 for taste. Overall a very solid offering. Unibroue knows what the hell they are doing.

750 ml bottle. Pours a beautiful, clear copper with a creamy off-white head that leaves good lacing as it diminishes. Aroma is sweet, bready and spicey with hints of dried fruits, citrus and summer flowers. Flavor is complex, fruity and malty, yeast, bitter and sour with a lingering sweet alcohol finish. Moderate full body and creamy carbonation. A real nice belgian style strong.

Pours a dark amber color with a medium off white head. Smells very sweet, like you’d expect from a Unibroue beer. Alot of candy sugar, Unibroue yeast, and sweet malts. The flavor is much the same. Has the typical Unibroue flavor. Pretty sweet on the palate, full bodied, very malty. Alot of dark fruit and sweet malts. The alcohol is there, but masked proficiently. Another good offering from these guys.
